Hi Barb. Check out The 13th Floor on bard again. I just downloaded
the book again, and it sounds just fine to me. I'm not hearing any

I remember reading that book as a kid. I'll have to check it out.
That book was a lot of fun. Unfortunately bard may be the only place
to get that book in a human read audio format. I actually contacted
listening Library several years ago, and asked about that book and it
hadn't been converted to digital format from cassette. I'll have to
check the quality on bard.

It was the 13th floor by Sid Fleishmen Note I am guessing about the spelling of
the author's name.
Concerning BARD, I love the nevigation features within the app, but I hate that
you cannot use them outside of the app such as with bluetooth headphones or a
speaker. It means you have to have the phone with you in order to rewind a tiny
bit if I happen to miss something.

RE: Some questions about the Audible app

2021-02-27 Thread Richard Turner
One note about BARD, if you use the rewind or fast forward buttons on either
side of the play/stop button, a one finger double tap jumps by 5 seconds, but
if you double tap and hold, it will announce the time as it moves, like 5
seconds 20 seconds, 1 minute, etc.

Also, many, many, titles on BARD are now the same as the commercial titles on
Audible, or any other commcerial audio book source.
And, most of the BARD readers are professionals, though there are times when a
book is produced by a local NLS chapter with volunteers and the reading quality
may vary.
Also, if it was converted from a very old cassette, the quality can be lower
than one would prefer.

But overall, I find the BARD recordings quite good.

I really like audible. I have the gold plan and get one credit a month. There
are also lots of sales where you get books for reduced prices and two books for
one credit . I like to add books to my wish list and wait for them to be on
sale to buy them. There are also daily deals every day. There is also the plus
catalog with hundreds of free titles to listen to. I also love the book
navigation in audible. I can easily move forward and back by chapter or in 30
second intervals. I also love that I can easily move back and forward 30
seconds when the screen is locked and using all my headphones and speakers. I
cannot do that with most other listening apps such as BARD. It just moves me
back an entire section instead of the 30 seconds I wanted to move. I love free
books and often use bard, But, I think that the narration quality is much
better with audible than with BARD. I recently found an old childhood book on
BARD that was not available in audio anywhere else and I was so disappointed
that the narration is absolutely terrible. I really wish that the commercial
version were available on audible. I would buy it in a snap.

First is there a way in the app to view an entire category of books

The app does not do a very good job of allowing you to flick through
categories. I think because visually they have pictures of the book cover,
though I do not know why it repeats.

You do not seem to be able to check the price in the app because you cannot buy
from within the app. You can add it to your list, etc.

I find the web site far easier to use for browsing and for buying for that very
reason.

Before I switched to libro.fm, I had the Gold membership for basically $149 per
year for 12 credits, which comes out to about $12.50 per book.
There is also the platinum plan for I think about $240 per year for 24 credits.

Since Amazon owns both Audible and Alexa, once you have a book in your Audible
Library, you can just ask Alexa to play that title. This assumes you are using
the same account for both, which you probably are.

I switched to Libro.fm because I'm not buying that many books because I can

Is there anything else I should know or that would be helpful before I start
downloading and listening to books.
Finally I have an echo Dot and I am wondering how I can link my audible account
so that I can listen to the books I have in my library on my device.
Lastly when it comes to the different membership options which choice do some
of you guys have and why and what one do you feel provides the best value for
money.
Thanks in advance.
Jen

RE: Some questions about the Audible app

2021-02-25 Thread Richard Turner
I know the books are more expensive, but since I do not buy that many because
of the other availability, and I can support a local bookstore in the process I
do not mind spending $2 or $3 more for a book when I might buy one 2 or 3 times
a year.
You can sign up for the monthly membership at $14.99 a month, and after you
have gotten a book or two, or allowed a credit or two to be in your account,
you can pause your membership and use those credits whenever you want.
You never lose them.
Then, resume your membership when you want to buy another book, etc.

And, again, because they do not use the Digital Rights Management, (DRM), you
can play them on anything, including Voice Dream Reader.

My problem with libro.fm is I think each book is to expensive. I can get the
books cheaper through audible. You are correct about bard though. Here in the
U.S. I've got over 1400 bard books on my iPhone I really shouldn't worry about
needing to find anything else to read.
Although, voice dream reader and bookshare is very cool as well.

RE: Some questions about the Audible app

2021-02-25 Thread Richard Turner

I switched to Libro.fm because I'm not buying that many books because I can
usually get them here in the United States through NLS, or Bookshare,.
When I want a human read book, I will buy it through Libro.fm because I can
play them on anything that plays mp3 files and a local bookstore gets half of
the price.
The only books they do not have that Audible has are the Audible Originals.

Hi I just subscribed to Audible.com although I'm in Canada.
I installed the app on my phone but I have a few questions.
First is there a way in the app to view an entire category of books meaning I
can scan through several books but then it just seems to repeat them so
wondering if there is a way to go through an entire category or genre without
having to go on to the website.
Also if I decide to purchase a book is there a way to see the price of the book
instead of just letting me know I can buy for one credit so I can decide
whether it is best to use a credit or just cheaper to buy the book out right.
Is there anything else I should know or that would be helpful before I start
