Re: spotify or something else
Eden, I use a free app called AccuRadio. It gives you unlimited skips per station/hour, a variety of artists and genres, and so forth. At times songs repeat but this hasn't happened to me that often. It is accessible. Instead of skips, you are offered the opportunity to ban a certain artist or song. I find this to work better since if I hear a song that I don't like, I can ban that song on a station and hear other songs from the same artist. Unfortunatley you cannot ban a song throughout the entire app. The one big drawback is you cannot search for certain artists or create stations based on artists, like on Spotify and Pandora, but other than that I've been very happy with it. The genres can be very diverse and also very few. For instance, the holiday music genre has 50 different subcategories, and the eighties music genre has about 15 different subcategories. Other genres have fewer subcategories, but so far the ones I have looked at have a fairly wide variety of flavors to them. RE: spotify or something else
Hi, I have actually been using Acuradio quite extensively lately. They have just added about fifty holiday stations and not all of them Christmas. They even have a twenties Jazz station which plays a lot of music that is similar to what is heard on Downton Abbey if anyone watches that show. I can also use Airplay very successfully with this app. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: spotify or something else
One other thing about AccuRadio that some may like: you can buy the currently playing song through the app. Not a big deal since many apps have this now, but every so often I will hear a song from 20 years ago that I don't have and would love to have. I have done this for several songs. After you double tap the buy button, the iTunes Store app opens and you are on the album information for that artist/song. I have found that when I purchase songs through AccuRadio, my iTunes music library on my Windows laptop is also instantly updated. Cool. Also, there are thanks for listening messages that play between some songs, but over all, it is a very pleasant listening experience. One of those apps that i could spend several hours listening to and not notice the time flying by. Re: spotify or something else
Yes, I like accuradio very much, I like banning artists so I guess I can use this app to discover what music I like and then I can go put them on my track list with Spotify. Rhapsody has a bigger library but I got stuck in some menu and couldn't get out wrote to their tech support, but the person couldn't write propper grammar much less answer my questions. I will stick to accuradio and spotify thanks, lol. Eden On 11/11/2014 12:34 PM, Wayne Merritt wrote: Eden, I use a free app called AccuRadio. Another thing this app has not done that Pandora does so far anyway is even the paid version of Pandora One had a nasty habit of stopping after a while and sending me Are You Still Listening messages and reminding me that they are paying for the music I listen to and making me click a button telling them that I was still in the room. This annoyed me a great deal since I was also paying for the music every month. Anytime I feel like I am missing out on satellite radio for the continuous music of any variety, I recall apps like AccuRadio where you get all that streaming for free! RE: Spotify or something else
Hi, That is an excellent question and I have posed that very same question on another phone list with no one having the answer, laughs! I also asked if anyone has successfully used or has an opinion on Apple beats since it is on my Apple TV and is available on the iPhone. I have heard that it is possibly being integrated next year into iTunes so I am not sure I want to begin a $99 a year subscription or $9.95 a month but I thought I would at least ask if it was comparable to Spotify. So far on the other phone or Apple lists no one seems to know. Merv -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: spotify or something else
Hey Eden, I use Spotify, and have used some of the others as well. Spotify only will show you what they have in their catalog concerning an artist so navigating to that is doable it can just be a little different at first. I've tried Beats, but you have to do the initial set up on the computer and their interface is a little odd. I'm finding of all things that iTunes Radio is indeed better once you give it a chance. You can skip six skips per station, per hour, not just per hour like Spotify, and you can still skip songs and such when you dislike something it skips it. You can even edit your stations and tell it what not to play that way as well. Their are some quirks and oddities with it and I'm still learning a few things but with the Match subscription you get it ad free and it seems to be more robust. Spotify is again, good (I hear that iTunes and Beats are possibly going to merge soon so I would keep watching that arena) but they are sometimes limited. iTunes seems to have an ever growing catalog and if you set your stations just right and like a few things you may not hear an album in order but you'll get quite a few tracks before it moves onto something else and it will come back to that as well. Spotify's radio is a touch clunky so that's why I have a problem with that. Hope this helps and if you have any questions don't hesitate to let some of us know. ) On Nov 10, 2014, at 3:16 PM, Eden Kizer eden...@centurylink.net wrote: What music services are you finding very accessible?
