RE: Updating SE

2016-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Nancy,

A Few people reported they had battery drain issues after updating to iOS 10,
but if you look at the larger community you probably find that more people
report better battery life with iOS 10, there is nothing in iOS 10 which causes
massive amounts of users to experience battery drain issues.
I would, however, highly recommend you follow a few simple steps to prepare for
the update and, if at all possible, do the update via iTunes, you get much more
feedback and I think updating from one major version to another still is safer
using iTunes. In any case, here is what I do and this does seem to help in
preventing issues:

1. Make sure all apps are updated before you upgrade
2. Backup your phone to iCloud or, if you can, do an encrypted backup to
iTunes. If you do end up having to restore from a backup for some reason the
encrypted backup will be the most complete.
3. After the backup has finished, bring up the app switcher (double press of
the home button) and close/force quit all apps by swiping up with 3 fingers
4. Go to Settings > General > Reset and select "Reset Network Settings".
Approve the reset/reboot.
5. Wait for your device to reboot, after you are back on your home screen you
have to reconnect to your WiFi and, if you had renamed your phone to "Nancy's
iPhone SE" go to Settings > General > About and at the very top double tap on
the name which is just "iPhone" after the reset, delete it and type "Nancy's
iPhone SE" or whatever you want to call I t.
6. Now do your update via iTunes or, if you don't want to do this, go to
Settings > General > Software Update and initiate it from there.

Making sure all apps are updated is just good housekeeping, doing a backup is a
no brainer just in case something goes wrong and doing the extra step of
resetting network settings is a precaution, it may not do much and some say it
is completely unnecessary, but I have seen so many situations where doing this
fixed a number of issues including issues of battery drain that I just do it.
It takes me a minute or two to reconnect to my WiFi and rename my phone again
to what I want and to me that is worth it.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Everyone!

My SE currently has 9.3.2.

What differences will I notice if I upgrade to 10+?

Does 10 use more battery than 9?

If so, how can I reduce the drain?

Thanks so much!

IOS 10 works well. So here's my last battery stats. The phone was in
use between eight-nine hours and the standby time was 52 hours. I fully
recommend IOS 10.
