lyft does give you the option of tipping the driver. Be careful with this, 
because the default is $2. If you want to tip $1 or no tip at all, you must 
double tap on the $2 button, and change the value.

I generally will do this no matter which ride share app I am using.

Once your driver has been assigned, there will be a button that says 
"contact driver" in the lower left corner of the screen. Double tap on that 
button, and you will be given choices, like text, call, etc.

Often the drivers appreciate it since they know what to look for.

In the Uber app, the only way I know to do this is after you have arrange the 
trip. In the new app, there's a contact button on the page that shows up near 
where the drivers name is shown. Tap on that button. Then swipe right down to 
either message the driver or call the driver. Then you can either send a 
message or make a phone call to let the driver know exactly where you are.
