Not to “beat a dead horse,” this is the second time this has happened to me
now. In both cases I had the ooTunes app opened and do recall touching the
screen and hearing what I recall to be a sharp “POP” and then the on-board
speakers were muted. I love the ooTunes app, but I’m now exercising extreme
caution whenever I have that particular app active and in focus.

Have you tried to raise the volume when the phone is on speaker? Often when you
get Voiceover and such on the headphone and not on the speaker it's because
speaker volume and headphone volume are independent from each other. Your
speaker volume may simply have dropped to 0%. I would try to unlock your phone
using the headset, then when you are on the home screen on the top left icon,
unplug the headset and do a 2-finger swipe up or down to start Voiceover
reading, then repeatedly press the volume up button.

Subject: iPhone 6 Stuck in Earphone Mode

I’ve encountered a very frustrating situation with my iPhone 6 (iOS 11.2.1), 92
Gb free space. It seems that the onboard speakers are not retaining an active
status. That is, I find that I have to use earphones to hear any VoiceOver
speech. This is likewise the case wtih the ooTunes app I use to listen to
streamed radio services. One approach I tried was to leave a voice-mail
message on my mobile account; then force output to “Speaker” and that worked so
long as I was listening to the message. However, as soon as I left the Phone
app sound output reverted back to earphones.

Does anybody have any suggestions. I have decent earphones, but I really would
prefer to be able to use my iPhone without requiring the earphones.
