Re: iPhone field in contacts, was IPhone 3GS and iMessages

2012-09-19 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, are you syncing your contacts through a cloud service like Google
Contacts? If you are, then I don't believe the iPhone field will show up
since Google doesn't support that. In the past for me it used to get
switched to the field called Other. Since I don't use iMessages I don't
bother with an iPHone field so the fact that it's not there for me
either doesn't bother me.

But I guess this is really not a big deal because as I said, how do I know

some of my friends and business contacts have iPhones, but it would be silly
if I had to ask everybody just to get iMessages working which seem to work
perfectly fine when the contact's cell number is labeled as Mobile. But I
was curious which is why I asked, no need to clutter the list further with
this.

If I click on the mobile button to go through the additional labels iPhone
is the first one in the list for me. First mobile is selected and then the
first one after that is iPhone.

Hello,

I have heard people refer to this mysterious iPhone field before. Where
is
this supposed to be, I certainly don't seem to have it when I add or edit
a
contact. If I double tap let's say on the Mobile button next to the
field
where I put somebody's cell number I get a list with a Cancel button at
the

top left, then the heading Labels is at the top in the middle and after
that I have the following 10 labels to choose from:

Mobile (which would show as selected)
Home
Work
Home Fax
Work Fax
Pager
Assistant
Car
Company Mai
Radio

I really don't see the point of the iPhone field anyways because if
somebody

gives me their cell number I don't typically ask them whether they have an
iPhone or not and I have never had issues with iMessages working, if I am
sending a text and the recipient has iMessage enabled it will go as an
iMessage, this is how it's supposed to work and I doubt Apple requires
anybody to specifically indicate whether the number is an iPhone number or
not. By the way, this is an iPhone 4S and iOS 5.1.1 for me. I seem to
remember seeing the iPhone number field before, but it was a long time ago
so could this maybe something on an iPhone 4?

Sieghard

Ok all to reliably send iMessages make sure the contact's number is in the
iPhone field and not anywhere else. Did this to all my iOS contacts and
have

been able to reliably send iMessages ever since.

Re: iPhone field in contacts, was IPhone 3GS and iMessages

2012-09-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
Just want to throw in one quick thing: if you go down to the bottom of
the screen and find the add field button, you will find a long list
of fields that don't show up by default when entering contact
information. Such things as assistant's name, assistant's tel,
birthday, home fax, work fax, address, and perhaps even iPhone. I
don't recall having to find this iPhone field in the Add Fields button
screen, since I recall seeing it on the main add contact screen.
Whatever the case, perhaps it slipped to the more fields area. I've
used the field several times and it has come in handy if I know for a
fact that someone has an iPhone.

Wayne
