RE: Screen Brightness Annoyance When Rebooting iPhone 8 Plus

2018-10-29 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I had autobrightness turned on, but founda few times where it was still going
anywhere from 40% to 60% or whatever even with screen curtain on.
Didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of always checking to make sure the
feature worked as it should and simply went back to disabling autobrightness
all together.

That is exactly what auto brightness is supposed to do, but at some point Apple
did make it so that when screencurtain was turned on brightness would get set
to 0% regardless whether auto brightness was turned on or not. This makes
complete sense, Apple has full control over their hardware and software and
obviously if somebody turns on screencurtain they couldn't care less if
brightness was kept up at 30% or whatever, it only uses more battery and just
as certain behaviours are triggered when Voiceover is turned on I am sure Apple
can trigger certain behaviours when screen curtain is turned on such as setting
brightness to 0% and overwriting the auto brightness setting.
If of course this doesn't work as it should then Apple needs to figure out why.

Hi Chris,
It seems to me that if you have auto brightness turned on, it’s not going to
stay at zero, because the whole point of auto brightness is to adjust the
brightness depending on the surrounding like conditions. At least, that’s my
understanding. I always have it off, and I turn it up if I need sighted
assistance with something.

Hello Mary,

I do the same as you, but a few people had their screen curtain on, and this
seem to keep their brightness at zero for them. So I gave it a try, and as I
previously stated, it did not work out for me.

Re: Screen Brightness Annoyance When Rebooting iPhone 8 Plus

2018-10-29 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Mark,

I am running the latest ios on an iPhone 8, and I have seen many brightness
issues ever since I have updated to ios 12. And I have tested it, it does not
matter whether screen curtain is on or off.
Here is what I have seen:

* Ever time I restart my phone, and I just tested this again, my phone
brightness is set to 100%. And this happens whether screen curtain is on or
off and if auto brightness is on or off.
* If I have auto brightness on, my brightness will increase from time to time,
even if I have screen curtain on. For example, I would turn it down to 0, and
check later on, sometimes it would still be at 0, and sometimes I found it at
35%. If I turned it back down to 0, things would just repeat itself after some
time. So I was forced to turn auto brightness off.

I understand that not everybody and all phones see this behavior, but it is
happening. I do not understand why, and even though I would guess that Apple
would have a hard time reproducing it, I have submitted the problem to them in
hopes that it might be resolved in a future update.

Hello Mary,

Since posting my original message on this, I have restarted my phone 3 times
and cannot get the problem to reoccur. Mind you, it's been automatically
dimming at start-up for about the past 5 days.

Now, it restarts with the correct brightness level.

Wow!

Re: Screen Brightness Annoyance When Rebooting iPhone 8 Plus

2018-10-28 Thread Mary Otten
Interesting, Mark. I have seen the exact opposite. I want minute zero. I set it
to her. And sometimes it doesn’t stick. Go figure.

Screen Brightness Annoyance When Rebooting iPhone 8 Plus

2018-10-28 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I think I saw something about this, on-list, a while ago but cannot
remember. So I'll ask:

When I reboot my iPhone 8 Plus, running iOS 12.01, the screen brightness
resets to zero or as low as it can go.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I have rebooted the phone with and
without VoiceOver enabled and the behavior of the screen brightness, at
reboot, remains the same.

I have spent some time researching Google but, aside from one or two
comments, dated back at the beginning of the year, I cannot locate any
reason/solution for this.

I don't remember this being a problem before the iOS 12.01 update.

As always, all replies greatly appreciated.

Mark
