Hi list: A friend of mind wishes to unlock her ATT 4S so she could go with T-mobile. First is this possible and if so, detailed instructions please? Hi, Its possible in the sense that att may unlock the 4s for a fee, but if you were hopping for a free software based solution then unfortunately you're out of luck. Cheers, Ben. I unlocked my iPhone 4S last december. I needed to do that because I was traveling overseas and needed to use local sim cards with local numbers in the countries I visited. I went to an unlocking service in my area. I paid $30 for that. Unfortunately my iPhone was, and still under contract, so ATT refused to unlock it until the end of contract, which will be next october. However, after unlocking my iPhone, I Found that there are some free services online. If you do a google search for free unlocking you may be lucky. If your friend's iPhone is not in a contract, ATT will do it for free, if not, the two remaining options are unlocking service for a fee, or find one of the free online services.
