adding multiple numbers to workflow in Workflow app VoiceOver iOS 10.3.3

2017-08-20 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am attempting to create a workflow using the Workflow app for iOS
which will accept multiple numbers and query for the number to call
when I double tap on it from the home screen. Utilizing VoiceOver with
iOS 10.3.3, I have dragged two phone number actions above the call
action into my workflow, but after adding the numbers, I discover that
when I run the workflow I am being queried for the number to call
instead.
What am I doing incorrectly? I have attempted to research this with no success.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: creating call action items workflow app iOS with VoiceOver

2017-03-30 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

You have to add the contact or phone number before the call action. For example
you can use the "phone number action

creating call action items workflow app iOS with VoiceOver

2017-03-26 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am trying to create a call action item to dial a contact from my
home screen using the workflow app. When I drag an action into my
workflow by holding on it and dragging, the action item becomes added
to the new workflow I created but I am not able to add a contact to
call. What do I need to do?
I am using VoiceOver on an iPhone6s with the latest version of iOS.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Apple Acquires Workflow App

2017-03-23 Thread Alan Lemly

couple of years back so I thought the below news item I got from Mac Rumors

Apple Acquires Popular Automation App Workflow

Wednesday March 22, 2017 4:48 pm PDT by Juli Clover

Apple has acquired well-known and popular automation app Workflow, reports
TechCrunch. The deal was reportedly finalized today for an unspecified sum.

Workflow, first released in 2014, is an automation tool that can essentially
do anything. It allows users to create a variety of workflows to accomplish
tasks like creating GIFs from a series of photos, pulling images from a web
page, translating an article, posting photos to multiple social networks at
once, calculating a tip, and tons more.

It is equipped with a built-in Gallery, which allows people to quickly find
and use a wide range of automation tasks, and it can be used to create
custom automations.

Apple is purchasing the Workflow app and the Workflow team, including Ari
Weinstein, Conrad Kramer, and Nick Frey, will be joining the company.

"We are thrilled to be joining Apple," said Weinstein in a statement.
"We've worked closely with Apple from the very beginning, from kickstarting
our company as students attending WWDC to developing and launching Workflow
and seeing its amazing success on the App Store. We can't wait to take our
work to the next level at Apple and contribute to products that touch people
across the world.

Apple confirmed the acquisition of Workflow, which notably received an Apple
Design Award in 2015 for its excellent accessibility features, likely one of
the reasons behind the purchase.

Typically apps acquired from Apple disappear from the App Store, but
Workflow will remain available and will be made free starting later today.
The Gallery will continue to be updated on a regular basis, as will app
integrations.

Beyond the app, it is not clear what Apple will do with Workflow in the
future, and whether it will be built into future versions of iOS and macOS,
but it is definitely a possibility. TechCrunch speculates that it could be
used alongside Siri in the future, or perhaps be the backbone of powerful
automation tools for the iPad.

Update: Workflow can now be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct

I can tell you the drag and drop is nothing more than double tap, hold, and

Hi Denny,

Did you get any further with this Workflow project? I was interested so
downloaded the app and have played a little but haven't had the time or
energy to get quite this far, so will be interested in what you're now
doing with it.

I have the send email action set to not show the mail composer, added

The main issue I have still is that when I click the start workflow

the second button voiceover speaks and is captured on the recording.
I may play with setting the start recording option to instant or with
a delay. I am also going to look at if I really need the copy to
clipboard action, or if it will work without it. I am hoping I can
get rid of the need to click done once I am finished with the
recording. As it is now I click the start recording, record my memo,
then click the stop recording button. Then I need to click the done
button to get to the send email button. Lots of extra clicking in
there, but a work in progress.

I'm sure for some users the Workflow app is great, but some of the examples
I have read sound to me like they are not a big time saver. For example,
using speed dial icons on the home screen is theoretically OK, but my first
home screen is filled with the apps I use most often and if I put Speed Dial
icons in a folder or on the second home screen, then I have to perform an
action first to get to them, e.g. double tap the folder to open it or swipe
to get to the second home screen. In this case I may as well double tap the
Phone icon and if my most used people are in the Favorites and this is where
I was when I closed the phone app, I basically have access to speed dials
(the entries in my favorites) after performing a single double tap on the
Phone icon which I can find super fast as it is in the bottom left corner of
the screen.

If I need access to a recording on my computer, I use Dropvox. I can set the
app to start recording when I open it so all I have to do is open the app,
then when I'm done I have to double tap to stop the recording, but then it
automatically uploads to whichever Dropbox folder I specified so as soon as
the upload is done and the download on any PC where I have Dropbox
installed, I have access to it in MP3 format.

These are just two examples, as I said, I am not trying to discredit the
app, but just as some others I personally have yet to really find a good use
for it.

Sieghard

Re: Uses of Workflow App?

2016-01-07 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
For starters, let's conclude the Workflow app is not made specially
for the blind comunity. It's made for the sighted users in the first
place. Sighted users are more concentrated on camera and document
editing than the blind and most Workflow features are based on
photos and documents and to automate the tasks which would usually
take sevveral actions such as opening a few apps, finding special
screens etc etc.
Automation is also good for the blind but unfortunately, common
tasks offered by Workflow are not intended for us and we can't
benefit much from it. The main reason as I see it for Workflow to
win th Golden Apple or whatever is it called is because there are
too many unexperienced users who simply don't know how to use their
iDevices.
Sieghard gave a good example for speed dialing and if user doesn't
have speed dials on the first home screen opening a folder or
sviping to other home screens takes the same time as hiting the
Phone app and choose favorite from the favorites list. Fortunate for
me, I have my speed dials on the first home screen and it's not
because I'm slow in finding the Phone app, it's just because I like
it and want it that way but Sieghard has the point.
Maybe it is easier for unexperienced users to automate their every
day tasks to spare some time but on the other hand by doing this
they won't gain any experience in working without automation. As I
stated earlier, I found Workflow useful only for speed dialing and i
couldn't find other uses of it which suites my needs. I don't
publish pictures on FB and Twitter on regular basis, I don't share
articles via mail with my friends, I don't have any specific daily
routines so automation offered by Workflow is just not for me.

2016-01-07 Thread Karl Smith
Hi Folks,

I bought this app just to give it a try and I can't really make heads or tails
of it. I start it and hit the getting started button and there is a thing that
says drag take photo to the right and one that says take photo action. I can't
seem to get past this. Is there a podcast or something anywhere showing some
examples of how this works? Thanks.

Sieghard and others,

I appreciate the comments and what I'm haring is sort of what I expected when I
started the thread.

I find it's much easier to make sure I've got all my contacts I regularly call
set up appropriately and I simply ask Siri to call their mobile or other
appropriate number and this works swimmingly about 98% of the time. I wouldn't
think using Workflow for something like this would benefit me.

I'm sure the app is very accessible and should be applauded for that and
hopefully serve as an incentive for other developers to follow suit. I was a
bit surprised that AppleVis chose it as the top app for receipt of its 2015
Golden Apple award because my sense from traffic on this list when the app came
out which has been further supported by this thread is that folks are having a
difficult time finding a use for the app.

I'm always receptive to new ideas and hope folks will continue to post if they
come up with a convenient use of Workflow.

I'm sure for some users the Workflow app is great, but some of the examples I
have read sound to me like they are not a big time saver. For example, using
speed dial icons on the home screen is theoretically OK, but my first home
screen is filled with the apps I use most often and if I put Speed Dial icons
in a folder or on the second home screen, then I have to perform an action
first to get to them, e.g. double tap the folder to open it or swipe to get to
the second home screen. In this case I may as well double tap the Phone icon
and if my most used people are in the Favorites and this is where I was when I
closed the phone app, I basically have access to speed dials (the entries in my
favorites) after performing a single double tap on the Phone icon which I can
find super fast as it is in the bottom left corner of the screen.

If I need access to a recording on my computer, I use Dropvox. I can set the
app to start recording when I open it so all I have to do is open the app, then
when I'm done I have to double tap to stop the recording, but then it
automatically uploads to whichever Dropbox folder I specified so as soon as the
upload is done and the download on any PC where I have Dropbox installed, I
have access to it in MP3 format.

These are just two examples, as I said, I am not trying to discredit the app,
but just as some others I personally have yet to really find a good use for it.

Try to explore the Voice Memo sharing settings instead of copying to

There's also a step called "Exit Workflow" which is good to have

Re: Uses of Workflow App?

2016-01-04 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I was fortunate enough to get this app as a gift on Applevises fifth
birthday lottery because I wanted to check out what I can do with
it. My primary goal was to create contact icons on the homescreen so
I can dial them right from there and I found the way to do that,
thanks to Workflow Gallery feature with shared and predefined
workflows.
As I was exploring the functions I found many ways to use it but
nothing I really need. For example, you can create a workflow with
which you can:
1. take a photo;
2. share it on Facebook;
3. copy it to DropBox and share the link to it via e-mail.
So, when you have your workflow set you activate it's icon, camera
is beeing opened and after you take a shot the Post to Facebook
screen opens with the photo you took attached. You Enter the message
or whatever and hit Post. After that the photo you took is beeing
uploaded to Dropbox and the new mail window opens with the link to
the photo already inserted in the message body so you just need to
enter the recepient and subject line and hit send.
You can perform loads of tasks like this one but only if you have a
serious need for them. I personally never share photos on FB or
sharing DB links to my photos on regular basis so I can do it
manually from time to time but for someone who's crazy about
shooting ans sharing this could be really helpful. I'm happy with
the speed dial feature.

  S poštovanjem

WORKFLOW APP

2015-09-06 Thread 'carol.pearso...@googlemail.com' via VIPhone
Hi all,

I still haven't really understood the concept here yet or got an idea of what
the Workflow app is actually achieving for everyone out there so, anyone care
to enlighten me a little further, please?

Does it basically use other apps to get work done?

Examples of use would be interesting ...

Re: This will probably not work but... a question or two about the workflow app

2015-03-23 Thread Alex Hall
I don't think so, because there's no way to "share" that information. Workflows
run on their own, or they run from a Share Sheet, so I can't see a way to
trigger one for a notification or recent call. However, you could use the
three-finger quadruple tap after VoiceOver speaks the number, to copy the last
spoken phrase to your clipboard.

I want to pick a phone number from either a notification that just came in or

2015-03-11 Thread Alex Hall
The vibrating timer is one example, though you must have it open to run for
more than ten minutes, which I didn't know about before. You might have a
"local search", which pops up a text field where you type a business type, then
shows you a list of local business matching that search; tap one to call it or
get an alert with more options. You could have something where you type text,
and that text is automatically sent to a Dropbox or iCloud file. A popup
showing you all your calendar events for as many days as you set it to. A quick
way to save links to a file in a cloud storage service. A QR/bar code scanner.
A shortcut where you type text, and it's sent as a tweet. That's all that comes
to mind for the moment, but have a look in the gallery; even if you don't use
anything from there, maybe that will give you more ideas.

Workflow app - Caan some examples of how it is being used be provided, please?

2015-03-11 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I bought the Workflow app. I listened to the AppleVis podcast and thought I'd
be able to use it somehow.

My creativity must be lacking, as I haven't been able to think of a use for it
yet.

If anyone who has used it to create a WorkFlow can give an example or two, I'd
appreciate hearing about how. Maybe that will jumpstart my creative juices.

Thank, Keith

Re: Did price of WorkFlow app go up to $6.99

2015-03-02 Thread Esther
Hi Christina,

Unfortunately, the price of the workflow app did just go up today from $2.99 to
$6.99. It was released in December as a new app, and some of the review
articles, such as the one at the MacRumors site, stated that the introductory
price of $2.99 would only be good for a limited time.

Your identification is correct; the App Store URL is:
• Workflow: Powerful Automation Made Simple by Desk Connect, Inc. (current
price $6.99)
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/workflow-powerful-automation/id915249334?mt=8

I only found out the new price when I checked just now because of your post.
Sorry to give you the bad news.

Esther

Hi Alex,

A podcast would be nice, when I read about Voiceover improvements I tried to
use the app for the first time today (I picked it up a while ago when it was on
sale) and I didn’t really get far and didn’t have the time to really play with
it and maybe read some help files online.

The easiest wy is to find the action in the middle of the screen, and swipe a
finger down until you hear "add to workflow". Double tap, and that should do
it. Once the update reaches me, I'll do a podcast for AppleVis on this. I
helped beta test it, so I know this new version quite well and can say that, at
least for me, VoiceOver was working well overall. Swiping through lists of
actions can go kind of strange sometimes, but that's the only problem I know of
for now.

still can't use the Workflow app

2015-02-12 Thread Dean Martineau
Version 1.1 of the Workflow app was released today, and one of its new
features was VoiceOver compatibility. On my 5S running 8.1.3, however, I
don't notice any difference, and I can't get the app to work. When I first
run it, I must activate the Get Started button. Then I am required to
create a workflow to create an animated gif. There is one action, Take
Photo, which I can drag, favorite or activate. There are two tabs, Action
and Workflow, but changing tabs doesn't do much to the screen. There are
two pages, but changing pages doesn't do anything. Can anybody suggest what
I'm missing, or if this can't work with anything below a 6?

Re: WorkFlow App Users.

2015-01-28 Thread Alex Hall
It is mostly usable, just find your actions, double tap and hold, and move your
finger to the right to add them. Moving actions within a workflow is all trial
and error. I can tell you that the next major update will be much more usable
with VoiceOver, so stay tuned.

Paul,

Have you written to the developer of List Recorder about making the sharing to
DropBox part of the app?

I did and she said she was working on it but that was over a year ago.

I’m wondering if I’m the only one who has been asking the developer to continue

Hi Alex, Hall,

In a podcast, the workflow app was brought to my attention as well. There is
not much that I’d like to automate, but here’s one situation. Do you think the
workflow app is suitable for the following?

I have list recorder installed. This lets you record audio, organize it etc
etc. One repetitive task I’m doing daily again and again is, that I need to get
my recordings into dropbox. To do this, in list recorder, I need to hit share,
in a new dialog the audio functions button, then in a new dialog the open in
button, then in a new dialog the dropbox button. To begin with, is this
automatable using workflow to begin with?

Once list recorder starts transferring the recording over to the dropbox app,
dropbox itself opens. I then need to enter my password, then I need to hit save
in the upper right corner of the dropbox iphone app, and then the upload to the
dropbox.com <http://dropbox.com> site begins.

Next, I need to switch back to list recorder, do a back button, and then the
workflow is finished for this file. As you see, it takes a lot of tapping,
flicking, and switching apps. Is this a scenario that the workflow app can
automate? Very curious, because this process is tedious. Hope to hear back.

Regards,

Paul.

Yes, this app requires iOS8. Half of its power comes from the ability to add
your workflows to the share sheet, so you can do whatever you want when sharing
webpages, contacts, text, and more. This functionality is only supported in
iOS8 and above, so I'm not surprised they put this limitation on the app. There
might be a version for iOS7 and below, I don't know.

I've spent a few days with it, and once I worked out how to use it, it
became possible to make workflows. There are VoiceOver bugs, but the
developers want to gather feedback and fix those. I'm hoping an update in
the next few months will make what is already a usable app into one that
is easy and fun, just as it is for sighted people. Even now, though, it is
possible to make workflows.

The one I just completed is a vibrating timer. You give it a value (6 or
over) and it vibrates your phone ad intervals to let you know how much
time has passed. It vibrates twice when a quarter of your time is gone,
twice again halfway, twice again at three quarters, three times when you
have one minute, and finally four times when time is up. A friend on
Twitter gave me the idea, and he uses a similar setup to silently keep
track of the time during speeches, meetings, etc. So long as you know how
long you have, this can use vibrations to keep you on track.

What I just described sounds like an app, but it's not. It uses the
Workflow app to run, but it sits on my home screen and I can launch it,
type in my time and off it goes. Workflow allows you to automate saving or
downloading files, making or sharing calendar appointments or reminders,
emailing, and tons more. It's currently $3, and if this is the kind of
thing you're into, I suggest picking it up. The app is, as I said,

Re: Workflow App: Tedious to Use, but Worth It

2015-01-24 Thread Alex Hall
Your first problem is that Dropbox isn't automatically logging you in. That's a
setting in Dropbox you can adjust, I believe.

The larger question is whether you could automate that. I don't know List
Recorder, but Workflow does let you save sharing workflows. So, you'd hit
Share, then Run Workflow, then choose the workflow you want (in your case, it'd
be something like "Save to Dropbox"). I haven't used Dropbox sharing workflows,
but I think that's all you need to do, since you can specify the Dropbox folder
in the workflow. Each time it runs, it saves to that folder. You can also have
it prompt you to choose a folder if you want.

Short answer: probably, but I don't know List Recorder well enough to say for
sure. In the meantime, either give it a shot, or have Dropbox save your
password, or consider the Dropvox app to automatically save recordings to
Dropbox.

Re: Workflow App: Tedious to Use, but Worth It

2014-12-30 Thread Christina C.
Hi, thanks for sharing info about this app. I have a question. Are the work
Flows created shareable? I am interested in this app but I would almost prefer
to use some already created to copy from so that I can learn. I learn from
copying and then tweaking, then eventually starting from scratch. :)

Thanks :)

Re: Workflow App: Tedious to Use, but Worth It

2014-12-28 Thread Alex Hall
An action is a dimmed button. So, that tutorial has an action to make gif,
meaning that VO will say "make gif, dimmed button". Double tap and hold that,
with your finger in the center of the screen, and drag your finger to the
right. That's how you'll add any action. To get to the list of actions, while
making a workflow, double tap the Actions tab or do a three-finger swipe left.
Find the action, and double tap and hold, like before.

Alex, on my 5S running 8.1.2, or whatever lesser version we're running, I can
get nowhere with this app. There are actions and Workflow tabs, and the chance
to create an animated gif, but I can't get to the supposed hundred actions one
can include in one's sequences, or indeed anywhere at all with the app. I'd
love to know how you did so.

Sounds like a form of scripting like we did with batch files in DOS?

An opportunity to share them might have mileage too, if some are better at

The one I just completed is a vibrating timer. You give it a value (6 or
over) and it vibrates your phone ad intervals to let you know how much time
has passed. It vibrates twice when a quarter of your time is gone, twice
again halfway, twice again at three quarters, three times when you have one
minute, and finally four times when time is up. A friend on Twitter gave me
the idea, and he uses a similar setup to silently keep track of the time
during speeches, meetings, etc. So long as you know how long you have, this
can use vibrations to keep you on track.

What I just described sounds like an app, but it's not. It uses the Workflow
app to run, but it sits on my home screen and I can launch it, type in my
time and off it goes. Workflow allows you to automate saving or downloading
files, making or sharing calendar appointments or reminders, emailing, and
tons more. It's currently $3, and if this is the kind of thing you're into,
I suggest picking it up. The app is, as I said, currently usable with VO if
you work around the issues it has, but the team is seeking feedback from VO
users and hopes to improve things in the near future. I'm not part of this
app in any way, I just really like what it can do and wanted to spread the
