HI Ari,

Try the download link instead of the play link. I think you might have better
results.

Best,
Anna

Re: Want to upgrade to the latest version of VDR, but I'm kind of worried about importing things from Safari using the extention.

2017-07-16 Thread englishrider91
Okay, so I took the plunge last night and updated to the latest version of VDR,
and I still can't get things to work. God, Apple, you're super annoying the
crap out of me right now! Why'd you have to go and set restrictions on in-app
browsers? Anyway, I tried everything I can think of with this link. It's a link
to a Cool Blind Tech podcast. Yes, I know I can just go find it in downcast,
but not everything's in downcast. Anyhow, the link is to a page with an
explanation of the podcast, with a link to play it or download it. I
double-tapped and held on the play link, which brought up a share option. When
I selected save to Voice Dream, it looked like it was going to make a text file
in VDR with the link as the text in the file, which is not what I wanted. so I
did a regular double-tap on the link, and the podcast started playing. I
pressed the exit full screen button, and got another share button. Great, I
thought. It'll work this time. Nope. After pressing save to Voice Dream, I was
presentedwith a pop up with a save button and a done button. Also buttons for
article, pdf, and fulltext. Both article and pdf buttons were dimmed, so I left
them alone. When I pressed the save button, the pop up stayed up. I went to
check on the progress of the file in VDR after a minute or so, and nothing was
there. I repeated the process, this time hitting done instead of save. This
time, the pop up closed, and the file still wasn't in VDR! i could chuck my
phone across the room at this point! What on Earth am I doing wrong? Arrgh!

Thanks,
Ari

If it is a generic ePub book, not DRM protected, Voice Dream Reader has read
that format for several versions now, if not from the beginning.

2017-07-15 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello Ari,

I haven't used the extension, but I have added a URL to Voice Dream Reader. I
often download Tek Talk presentation archives, so I added
www.accessibleworld.org

When I choose that option, the Accessible World page opens. When I double-tap
an MP3, it downloads into Voice Dream Reader. there's a progress bar at the
bottom of the screen. It works really well.

HTH,
Anna

2017-07-15 Thread englishrider91
I want to upgrade to the latest version of VDR, but I'm worried about using
VDR's Safari extension two import things I find on the web into VDR. i've never
gotten this to work reliably in the past. I find it confusing. There's a done
button, and the save button, and whatever I do, nothing seems to work. Could
somebody walk me through using this extension, particularly for saving things
like MP3s into Voice Dream Reader? Right now, I've taken to saving MP3s I find
on safari to dropbox, then importing them into Voice Dream Reader that way.

Thanks,
Ari
