Re: WayAround app and identification/labelling system

2019-04-25 Thread Mary Jo Partyka
Hi, Debbie,

I’m interested in finding out more about the Wayaround app. I listen to Rick’s
countdown every week and have also listened toyour country show on occasion. I
want some kind of labeling system which will be reliable. I usually pin on
color tags or buttons but they come off in the washing machine and I get
confused with colors. I have been using Tap Tap See and Seeing AI to get the
colors of clothing items but am not sure if I am doing it accurately. Any help
would be appreciated.

2019-04-18 Thread Chris Chaffin

When a tag is scanned, no, your phone does not make any beep or noise. But it
does vibrate as a way of letting you know that the scan has taken place.
As far as a widget being available to access from the lock screen, no, there is
not one currently, but the company is always taking suggestions on how to make
their app better.

I have WayAround and like it very much. So first, the labels are
affixed to buttons or clips or they're stickers. If you were using the
button, you'd attach it at the back of your shirt at the collar most
likely. They have two buttons, one that can be pinned and another than
is better sewn in. The tags are somewhat expensive and went up
recently, but they'll last forever and are rewriteable. You can use
the phone directly if you have a later model phone, I think 8 and up,
but if not, they have a tiny reader that pairs with the phone. My
phone qualifies, but I bought the reader because to use the phone I
had to take it out of its case. So I prefer the little reader. It's
very rast and you can get a lot on a tag. I have found it to be quite
useful as these things go, and although the initial outlay was a bit,
because I bought a variety of the tag types, I've not had to spend
anymore. The buttons that you pin and the stickers which come in those
that work on metal and those that do not have all been the most useful
to me thus far.

RE: WayAround app and identification/labelling system

2019-04-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I understand, but while the device is not that expensive, it does add
significantly to the cost and I like the idea of a system which works without
another device to read the tags. Of course the iPhone will do it, but as you
said, you then have to tap the button each time to read a new tag. Still sounds
like a good system.

I also use the Wayaround system. Sieghard, the 2 hole buttons are just like
the ones you find on a shirt and can be sown on, but do not know if they are
clear or black in color. All buttons can be washed and dried without a problem.
Since I do not sew, I use the one hole button and I use a safety pin to pin the
button to my shirts and clothes. To help quickly find them on my shirts, I pin
mine at the bottom of my shirts on the side along the seam.
All Wayaround tags are about $1 US a piece. But since they can be reused, they
can last for a long time.
As far as scanning, it uses the NFC chip in your phone, so I would say once you
put your phone close to the button, it only takes a second or two to pop up the
results.
So the WayLink does make scanning a tag even faster. To scan with just your
phone:
After opening the app, you must first double tap the read button, then hold the
phone close to the button. Then it will announce the results.
So if you have several things you want to look at, after opening the app, you
just have to double tap the read button each time you hold the phone close to a
button. This is a restriction of Apple and how they must access the NFC chip.
The WayAround link device is always in read mode, so as soon as you hold the
device close to a tag, it automatically tells you the result. Now the WayLink
device is bluetoothed to your phone, so the result still comes out of your
phone and is spoken by voice over.

I hope all of this has been helpful.

The information is stored on the tag. These are basically NFC tags.
The concept is similar to that of the pen friend except that the phone
is used to basically power the system. As I commented, I prefer the
tiny little tag reader they sell for about $100 because it's faster
than using your phone, but it's completely optional in terms of
functionality.

I also use the Wayaround system. Sieghard, the 2 hole buttons are just
like the ones you find on a shirt and can be sown on, but do not know if
they are clear or black in color. All buttons can be washed and dried
without a problem.
Since I do not sew, I use the one hole button and I use a safety pin to
pin the button to my shirts and clothes. To help quickly find them on my
shirts, I pin mine at the bottom of my shirts on the side along the seam.
All Wayaround tags are about $1 US a piece. But since they can be reused,
they can last for a long time.
As far as scanning, it uses the NFC chip in your phone, so I would say
once you put your phone close to the button, it only takes a second or two
to pop up the results.
So the WayLink does make scanning a tag even faster. To scan with just
your phone:
After opening the app, you must first double tap the read button, then
hold the phone close to the button. Then it will announce the results.
So if you have several things you want to look at, after opening the app,
you just have to double tap the read button each time you hold the phone
close to a button. This is a restriction of Apple and how they must access
the NFC chip.
The WayAround link device is always in read mode, so as soon as you hold
the device close to a tag, it automatically tells you the result. Now the
WayLink device is bluetoothed to your phone, so the result still comes out
of your phone and is spoken by voice over.

I hope all of this has been helpful.

Hi,

system was mentioned. Has anybody used it? I am curious as to how large the
buttons are they mention and whether they can be used to replace say a
regular shirt button.

Braille labels are still the best for some things and after having

Re: WayAround app and identification/labelling system

2019-04-17 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
Does this new WayAround app operate similarly to Pen Friend?

Can anybody tell me whether the information about any specific item is stored
on the label or is that information stored on the iPhone.

I ask because I wonder if any iPhone with WayAround installed can be used to
identify a so-labeled item. Or, as with the Pen Friend, would different
iPhones possibly have different identifications for a given labeled item. I
suppose that, with iPhones, the database could be shared via BlueTooth or WiFi.
I know this is possible with the Glucose Companion Pro app where several
iPhones can collect common data via iCloud..

For those unfamiliar with Pen Friend, it is a device that operates as follows:

- the device itself looks like a pen that has been eating far too much ice cream
- the ”pen" has a microphone and recording component
- it also has a memory chip where a database of items is retained
- as each label is used the code associated with that label is stored in the
database
- the accompanying recording (MP3) is linked to that label code
- when identifying an appropriately labeled item, the label code is read and
the associated MP3 is played

Because of this design, different Pen Friends can have different identifying
recordings for an item (or more accurately, label).

Re: WayAround app and identification/labelling system

2019-04-16 Thread Deb Cook Lewis

I have not used it. But, recall thinking the labeling buttons or tags were
rather costly.

Subject: WayAround app and identification/labelling system

Hi,

I received an email newsletter from AT Guys today and this labelling system was
mentioned. Has anybody used it? I am curious as to how large the buttons are
they mention and whether they can be used to replace say a regular shirt button.

Braille labels are still the best for some things and after having received my
expensive little LoganTech 6-Dot labeler I must say that I’m very impressed,
but for other things a system like WayAround with its corresponding app is
better since you can record a lot more information. I really like the idea of
using the iPhone which is almost always with me and considering the cost of say
the Pen Friend compared to this and the versatility of WayAround versus the Pen
Friend it is pretty tempting.

Best regards,

Sieghard
