WiFi Dropping or Not Listed In WiFi settings

2012-05-21 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

Recently, this has happened twice within the last 2 weeks. Fortunately, I
have the alert on to warn me to sign on to a WiFi connection or to cancel.
This is the only way that I knew that I was not using my WiFi and 3G was
eating at my data. I could check every time I open the phone, but that would
get old after a while. When I went into settings and checked my WiFi
options, my ISP was not listed nor the one other in the neighborhood. I used
the sleep/lock button 5 times to see if that would fix it and it did.
However, this doesn't get to the root of the problem to make a permanent fix
to the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or an explanation on why this
is happening? I am running iPhone4 with IOS 5.0.1.

Thanks in advance.

RE: WiFi Dropping or Not Listed In WiFi settings

2012-05-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Eileen,

Setting the iPhone to ask before joining a Wi-Fi hotspot is certainly one
way to become aware of any Wi-Fi problems. However, this request will only
come if an app requires Wi-Fi; you will not know exactly when the connection
was lost, a vital component in troubleshooting.

Also, I have noticed that, even when my Wi-Fi was not connected, before
fixing the problem, it would become connected when an app made a request.
Thus setting the phone to ask before connecting, in some instances, can
cause an app not to connect when it otherwise would have. It all depends
upon the specific nature of the Wi-Fi connectivity problem.

As far as I know, Apple has not yet acknowledged this problem despite
hundreds and hundreds of posts about it.
