Hi Regina, I think all of these external batteries basically work the same. The battery should have a regular USB plug in like you have on a computer or on your iPhone wall charger so any cable you can use to charge your phone from the computer or your wall charger will work fine. The battery works just as if you plug your phone in, it provides power to the phone just as your computer or wall charger does. If your phone is at 90% and you plug it into the battery it will charge it back to 100%, if it is at 2% it will do the same and if you totally run down the battery to the point where your phone shuts down automatically, it will take 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 minutes before it turns back on, but once again, this is the same as when you plug it into the wall charger. You will most likely find that the battery will not charge your phone as fast as the wall charger, but my laptop, for example, also takes longer to charge my iPhone and if you plug it into a laptop that is running on battery it's basically no different than if it's plugged into a dedicated external battery. As far as whether the battery is charging the phone or not you can easily see this when you check the status bar, if you are, for example, down to 15% and plug it into the battery, you ccan check the status bar battery indicator. If it says 15%, charging, then obviously it is getting power from the phone. If it continues to just announce 15% and you don't hear the sound it makes when you plug it in your battery is most likely dead. Make sure you ask your husband if your battery has an on/off switch and remember which position is on and which is off so you can be sure the battery is turned on. Thanks so much Sieghard! Hubby cannot see either, but as you said the battery causes the phone to chime and say charging so it is easy to tell.
