But that would only be the folder for photos since Apple does not give access 
to anything else unless maybe your iCloud folder, but you can access that by 
installing iCloud Control Panel.

We have it and use it all the time to transfer beg iPhone and PC. It works 
great. We haven’t had to use iTunes forever.

As far as I recall, being able to see the phone as a drive only allows you 
to save your photos off the phone onto a PC.
It doesn't back up anything else simply from that drive listing.
I've not used that app so I'm not sure if it has a way to pull off your 
installed apps and do all that stuff for back up along with the content.
