Re: iphone x question
With assistive touch you get to app switcher by double tapping assistive touch, then devices then more then app switcher. For control center and notifications, you can either use the regular gestures or you can double tap the assistive touch button then double tap control center or notifications respectively. If control center is not immediately visible, then its in devices and maybe under more just like the app switcher. I cannot remember. > On May 7, 2020, at 8:35 PM, Carolyn <4carol...@windstream.net> wrote: > > That sounds interesting. RE: iphone x question
Yes, that is what I do and slide once from bottom to Home Page. I guess with that Assistive Touch, you just press that virtual Home Button twice for Ap Switcher. Since I can do the new way, I think I won't try the assistive Touch, since the new way is probably here to stay. I was surprised that the SE had a Home Button, because with one, a little bit of screen space is bound to be lost. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Simon A Fogarty Sent: Friday, May 8, 2020 5:26 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: iphone x question Slide your finger up from the bottom of the screen until it vibrates the second time and this is the app switcher. RE: iphone x question
To get to the app switcher, you do the same thing you do to get to the home page, except keep sliding your finger a bit further up the screen until you feel a second vibration. It's a bit tricky, but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail > -Original Message- > From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf > Of Carolyn > Sent: Thursday, May 7, 2020 7:35 PM > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: RE: iphone x question > > That sounds interesting. Re: iphone x question
Assistive touch is an accessibility feature meant for people with limited motor skills. It gives you an easy way to access the home button, notifications, control center the app switcher and other features and gestures. Re: iphone x question
One thing to add about Assistive Touch. In my experience, the Assistive Touch virtual button tends to move around the screen a bit. Usually, I find it in the bottom right-ish part, but not always. I wish it stayed in one place. Also, it can hide things you are used to seeing. For instance, if I'm in BARD Mobile, and the Assistive Touch button is in the lower right corner, if I then touch the Now Reading tab also in the bottom right corner, I often hear VoiceOver say, "Assistive Touch menu". You may have to go to the next closest item and flick to the app item you are looking for. So, in my example, I would find the Settings tab and then flick right to find the Now Reading tab and double tap. This is an annoying thing about Assistive Touch, but I'm mostly willing to deal with it. I use Assistive Touch as an easy way to restart my phone. On the iPhone XR, I haven't come up with an easy phone restart, other than shutting it down, plugging it into power, and waiting for it to start up. There supposedly is a sequence of button presses, but half the time whenever I try it, I end up nearly calling EMS. Finally, you can turn on VoiceOver Help from anywhere with a 4 finger double tap, and practice the new VoiceOver gestures, such as going to the home screen or the app switcher. This would be a good way to practice without actually performing the gesture. Just to add to what Wayne says, If you hear the VoiceOver clicks, remove your finger from the screen and start over. You want the finger tip on the edge of the phone, not really on the screen, and as you slide onto the screen you will hear a different sort of sound, keep going until the first sound and maybe vibration occurs and lift your finger for home. If you have VoiceOver hints on, if you hesitate a little, VoiceOver will say "lift for home button or something like that. The second blip and vibration is the app switcher. >From the top of the screen you can do the same gesture for Notifications and >Control Center. If I want to go to the App Switcher on my iPhone XR, I put my finger at the bottom of the screen, feel the bottom bump and here the low pitched bonk, and then slide up until I hear and feel the second bonk and vibration, and then I lift my finger. Re: iphone x question
One relatively easy way is to enable the assistive touch feature in the disability section of settings. it will put a virtual home button on your screen at all times. You then double tap it and you will get several options like device home and notifications. If you want the app switcher you double tap this home button and double tap device and more and then app switcher. Once you activate the assistive touch feature, the virtual home button is most likely somewhere on the bottum of your screen. There is another way to activate the home button by sliding up on the screen, but I have never gotten this to work for me. I prefer the assistive touch feature. > On May 6, 2020, at 1:45 PM, Shirley Healy wrote: > > > how do you activate the home button on the Iphone X? > and how do you get out of an app? > I'm new to the Iphone x. > thanks > shirley > -- > The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. > > If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if > you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or > moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. > > Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor. Hello. You need to use swipe gestures from the bottom of the screen. Place a finger on the bottom of the screen, doesn't matter where, and you hear and feel a bump. If you then slide up, you will encounter 2 beeps and vibrations. The first is the Home screen vibration, and the second is for the App Switcher. Simply lift your finger when you find the one you want. It is a little hard to describe, but once you get it down, you will have it. how do you activate the home button on the Iphone X? and how do you get out of an app? iPhone X dimensions and weight, was: iPhone X Question
Hi, It is exactly the shape of the current iPhones, but all 3 new iPhones now have also a glass back (again) since the iPhone 4 and 4S also had a glass back. I just Googled iPhone X dimensions and did find the following information on GSMMarina.com, here they did by the way also say the iPhone X would have 3 Gb of RAM which I think means it has 1 Gb more than the current regular size models, but I think the 7 Plus also had 3 Gb. Anyhow, here the dimensions for the iPhone 7 (regular 4.7 inch screen size) and then the iPhone X, after that the summary/comparison: iPhone 7 Dimensions: 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm or 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 inches Screen (diagonal): 4.7 inches Weight: 138 grams or 4.87 ounces iPhone X Dimensions: 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm or 5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 inches Screen (diagonal): 5.8 inches Weight: 174 grams or 6.14 ounces iPhone X is larger than an iPhone 7 as follows: Length: 5.3 mm or just under a quarter inch longer Width: 3.8mm or just over an eighth inch wider Thickness: 0.6mm thicker, also 0.3mm thicker than an iPhone 7 Plus Weight: 36 grams or about an ounce and a quarter heavier (only 14 grams or about half an ounce lighter than a 7 Plus). All in all it's amazing that with such a marginally larger size compared to the regular 4.7 inch screen models they can make the screen even larger than on the plus models. I think sighted people will love this. I can imagine that this phone would feel very nice to hold, it will have more weight to it but it is only an eighth inch wider and less than a quarter inch longer than the regular size phones now and of course because of the OLED screen and more power efficient CPU 2 hours more battery life puts it into the league of the Plus models as well for that. In fact, when the OLED screen becomes standard I could even see the larger Plus size phone models disappearing unless they also get the OLED screen and with no bezel and home button I bet they could give these phones a 6.5 or 6.7 inch screen which is not that far off an iPad Mini screen and the term "Phablet" would really apply then. For those who have a hard time picturing what a quarter or eighth inch is, here something to compare it to: A quarter inch is 6mm. The current iPhone 6, 6S or 7 are 7.1mm thick, this means the iPhone X is longer than the iPhone 7 by less than the thickness of the 7 and wider by only half of that thickness. In fact, the iPhone 5S was 7.6 mm thick which is basically the same as the iPhone X and if somebody ever put an iPhone 5S next to an iPhone 6S or 7 you know how almost unperceptable that difference of half a millimeter is, maybe the same as 2 postcards on top of each other. I think if you picked up an iPhone X you might notice the heavier weight, but at first would not even notice that it is larger than a 6S or 7.
