Re: osx on windows computer?

2016-08-02 Thread Devin Prater

Hi,
If Windows is slow on the computer, Mac will be slow as well. I'd
recommend installing Linux. Look up "sonar gnu linux" or "vinux" If you
really need speed, go with "talking arch" which is command line, but
along with Emacs and Emacspeak edbrowse, it can be pretty modern-feeling.

RE: osx on windows computer?

2016-08-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gianni,

You cannot install any Mac OS on a Windows system. If your computer is getting
slow and you don’t want to buy a new one I suggest you make sure you have all
your data backed up to an external drive and to then reinstall Windows from
scratch. What version of Windows is on that computer now? Do you know how old
it is and what CPU and amount of memory it has? If it is a Windows 7 computer
that is 4 or 5 or even 6 years old you may want to consider putting Windows 10
on it. It is still free to do so even though the official free upgrade offer
from Microsoft has expired on Friday. However, if you use any accessible
technology like a screenreader, Microsoft still allows you to upgrade for free
by going to the following website:

Windows 10 upgrade for assistive technology users
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

Microsoft writes: For the general public, the free upgrade offer for Windows 10
ends on July 29. However, if you use assistive technologies, you can still get
the free upgrade offer even after the general public deadline expires as
Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people
who use these technologies.

There is also a very informative FS Cast (episode 129) from Jonathan Mosen
which you can find at

http://www.freedomscientific.com/About/FSCast

Tomorrow a significant Windows 10 upgrade will be released, the first
anniversary update, and I can definitely recommend Windows 10 even on older
machines. I am currently using a PC which has a CPU that predates even the
first generation I3/I5/I7 processors. It has a relatively low-end Intel Core 2
Duo CPU, model E7400 at a clockspeed of 2.80GHz with 4 Gb of RAM and it was
one of my PC’s at my store which I replaced, but after reinstalling it with
Windows 10 it’s been running very well for me at home. This processor was first
released in 2008 and I can’t remember if I bought that computer late in 2008 or
in 2009, but it’s at least 6 or 7 years old. I put Windows 10 Professional 64
Bit on it.

Regards,
Sieghard
