Re: playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on Iphones

2015-02-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
I'm fairly certain you can only play Overdrive MP3 books on the iDevice. WMA is
a Windows format, and also, the files have a lot of protected content, so may
not play in anything other than Overdrive without self-destructing. I hope I'm
wrong, though. I can't test it, since you can only use Windows to transfer the
files, and I don't have access to that application.

iPhone, iPod and iPad don't support WMA files.

I know an article which introduces two methods on how to import WMA to
iTunes and then transfer WMA to iPhone/iPod/iPad via iTunes at:
http://www.faasoft.com/articles/wma-to-itunes-to-play-wma-on-iphone-ipad-ipod.html

Method One: Import WMA to iTunes for Windows

Launch iTunes, and then click "File" > "Add File to Library" to open WMA
files that you want to import. Then a window will pop up as clearly. Just
click "Convert" to convert WMA to iTunes M4A format. Once the conversion is
done, you can play WMA files in iTunes or import WMA to iPhone, iPad and
iPod.

Method Two: Add WMA to iTunes for Mac

For Mac users, the widely used solution is to convert WMA to iTunes more
compatible formats like MP3, M4A, AAC, etc with special WMA to iTunes
Converter. Faasoft's great WMA to iTunes Converter is the best one of them,
which enables to convert WMA to iTunes with fast speed and high quality.

Re: playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on Iphones

2014-03-08 Thread Alex Stone
I'm no expert, but i suspect this may be to do with drm. I also use
Overdrive, but I had to install a special add-on for wma in order for it
to be able to play the files. but, don't ask me any more than that,
because I don't know.

There are several converters that do that, but Switch I believe isn't one.
They've got DRM, so your choices are limited.

Re: playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on IPhones

2014-03-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Switch is from NCH. Here's a URL to more information on Switch:
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/ This will work for WMA files not using
DRM. As someone else said, if you're talking about WMA files with DRM
then Sound Taxi will do the trick.

I have not tried the Overdrive audio books but would it be possible to
convert them to mp3 or m4a with a file converter such as Switch? There are
several good programs for playing mp3 or m4a books such as Audio Book and
Podcast player. . I listened to them all the time before the BARD app came
out and used Switch to convert the ones in WMA format to mp3 or m4a.
Just a thought.

WMA is a Microsoft proprietary format, just like AAC is an Apple

Any thoughts on this?

RE: playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on IPhones

2014-03-06 Thread Alan Lemly
The program SoundTaxi is excellent for converting protected OverDrive wma
and Audible files to mp3 format for personal use. It cost in the $20 range
but is well worth it in my opinion. I don't need to hear a barrage of posts
about the legality of converting such protected content but those
considering using such a utility should realize the legality of doing so
might be an issue.

Here's the link to the SoundTaxi site:

Re: playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on Iphones

2014-03-05 Thread Dan Beaver
Hi,

Well I guess I am going to have to try some of the WMA playing apps to see
if they are accessible or not. It looks like most of the audio books from
Overdrive are in the WMA format and they have a lot I'd like to read.

Thanks for the response.

WMA is a Microsoft proprietary format, just like AAC is an Apple
proprietary format, so you won't be able to play WMA files on your
iPhone, just as you couldn't play AAC files on the old Zune from Microsoft.

You cannot play WMA on the iDevices.

playing WMA audio book files from Overdrive on Iphones

2014-03-05 Thread Dan Beaver
Hi,

Has anyone tried to play audio book files that are in the WMA format on an
IPhone?

Overdrive told me the IPhone is not wma compatible when I tried to transfer
them using overdrive.

When I moved them over myself they just don't seem to play.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.
