Re: things to turn off to save battery

2023-08-27 Thread Donna Casteen
I have auto brightness turned off, screen brightness set to zero & blackout curtains over my bedroom window. My daughter & I just stepped into my walk in closet & shut the door. She was unable to see anything on my iPhone screen. I then turned on auto brightness &  even in a dark room, brightness goes to 10% which allowed her to be able to see the screen. She was seen by an ophthalmologist in July & her vision in both eyes is 20/20. My daughter says that she keeps her screen brightness set to 40% all the time.Donna

Then your husband must not see very well or you were in a bright place because in a dark room a sighted person can perfectly see the screen when brightness is at 0.
There would be no point to having screen curtain if all you had to do is set brightness to 0%.

I think it does completely dim the screen, which is why turning it to zero is a good thing. If mine is set to zero, my sighted husband cannot see anything. I never use the screen curtain, because I always have brightness at zero.

2023-08-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Actually with brightness at 0% and in a place where it is not very bright it is
perfectly easy to see what is on the screen.
If you have brightness set to auto and you are in a dark room chances are that
brightness could be at 0 or maybe just a few percent, the brighter it is where
you are the more brightness you need to read the screen.

I think it does completely dim the screen, which is why turning it to zero is a good thing. If mine is set to zero, my sighted husband cannot see anything. I never use the screen curtain, because I always have brightness at zero.Sent from my iPhoneOn Aug 26, 2023, at 5:56 AM, realman02 via VIPhone wrote:I thought that if you set brightness to 0 it would completely dim the screen.   From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Robert Doc WrightSent: Saturday, August 26, 2023 2:54 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Re: things to turn off to save battery Number one, brightness unless you need it.- Original Message - From: Dennis Long To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, August 25, 2023 1:26 PMSubject: things to turn off to save battery What would people recommend to turn off to save on battery?  Thanks.-- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor. If you have no vision you can set screen brightness at 0.

If you do not use any bluetooth devices, you can turn bluetooth off in settings.

RE: things to turn off to save battery

2023-08-25 Thread danneyyates
I'll add that, to my surprise, locking the screen makes a huge difference. I
had to replace my 12 mini's battery and, since then, I've forced myself to lock
the screen, although it is a hassle, sometimes, to convince face ID to open it
and I often have to enter my code manually, but it has made a big difference.

Some ideas may be any of the following:
* GPS location
* Camera
* Apps which use a lot of resources, like Facebook
* This may be a good time to go through your Settings, , but I've seen a big
difference. Privacy and Location Services and turn off or set to "while using"
any apps where you don't want your location used.
* Another Settings item would be General/Background Refresh. Most of the apps
on my phone I have background refresh set to off, meaning when I exit the app
does it stay running.
This list alone would save a lot of battery, but each person has their own
priorities. Finally, while I'm not a person who constantly closes apps from the
App Switcher, I also keep the number of open apps to a max of 6 or 7. Sighted
people don't have the luxury of knowing how many they have open, unless they
count them all. I know this from observing my wife and how she uses her phone.
Occasionally I will need to use her phone with VoiceOver. I have opened the app
switcher and, no lie, have discovered around 40 aps open at once. No wonder she
is always charging her phone, :)

Warmly,
Wayne

* This may be a good time to go through your Settings, specifically
Privacy and Location Services and turn off or set to "while using" any
apps where you don't want your location used.
* Another Settings item would be General/Background Refresh. Most of
the apps on my phone I have background refresh set to off, meaning
when I exit the app does it stay running.
This list alone would save a lot of battery, but each person has their
own priorities. Finally, while I'm not a person who constantly closes
apps from the App Switcher, I also keep the number of open apps to a
max of 6 or 7. Sighted people don't have the luxury of knowing how
many they have open, unless they count them all. I know this from
observing my wife and how she uses her phone. Occasionally I will need
to use her phone with VoiceOver. I have opened the app switcher and,
no lie, have discovered around 40 aps open at once. No wonder she is
always charging her phone, :)

Warmly,
Wayne

Re: things to turn off to save battery

2023-08-25 Thread Andy Baracco
If you have no vision you can set screen brightness at 0.
If you do not use any bluetooth devices, you can turn bluetooth off in settings.
