RE: My new iPhone

2022-07-27 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I tried the method mentioned, but there was a major problem. When I tried to
enter the code on my old iPhone, there was no keypad on the screen to use, and
I think my Bluetooth keyboard was already unpaired from it.

Just my experience. For me, all was well thanks to an iCloud backup. Even my
old Apple Watch worked with my new phone.

For me, having set up phone to phone 3 of these, you can do it independently:
1.-Power on the new phone and turn Voiceover on it of course.
2.-after selecting the country and language, they’ll be a Popup in which you
can select Manusl etup, thus have your old phone ready for this; have them both
plugged into power just in case.
3.-within the Manual setup, you’ll have to enter a 6-digit pin the new phone
displays, into the new one, and away it goes!

really happy with it.

There is one strange thing happening that I can't figure out. I have
haptics turned off, and the home button sensitivity set to 3. Occasionally,
when I move my finger around the screen, or press on the Home button, I hear
a light swish sound, similar to the one you hear when sending an email or

Has anyone else experienced this?

This is why I always read the Applevis.com blog upon each release of iOS,
iPadOS, or WatchOS.
The live text feature came in iOS 15 last September.
There is also a podcast by Thomas Donnville on the live text feature.
You can read that blog post here:

I do not recall if older phones cannot perform the live text do to their chip

True, but when I read that post and other articles on the web, it sounded like
the live text feature was just for OCR on text and the image recognition
feature only worked on photos. Obviously, I could have read things wrong, but I
was still surprised when placing VoiceOver focus in the view finder of my
camera app instantly recognized object and did OCR on any text it came across
all at the same time.

I believe that you might be experiencing a feature called reachability.
It's designed for larger iPhones and essentially causes the top items
displayed on the screen to move down so they're easier to reach. Go into
accessibility settings and into the touch section. Find and double tap on
the reachability setting to toggle it off. That should eliminate the swish
sound. You shouldn't actually need the reachability feature on a smaller
iPhone.

My new iPhone

2022-07-27 Thread Karen Poulakos
Recently got a new iPhone SE2022. Everything went fine with the wireless
set up. everything, including my settings transferred correctly. So I'm
really happy with it.

There is one strange thing happening that I can't figure out. I have
haptics turned off, and the home button sensitivity set to 3. Occasionally,
when I move my finger around the screen, or press on the Home button, I hear
a light swish sound, similar to the one you hear when sending an email or
text. It's so inconsistant, and infrequent, that I can't figure out what
I'm doing that is causing it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: My new iPhone

2022-07-27 Thread Richard Turner
As for that annoying swish when moving around; try turning off reachability.
Put reachability in the search field at the top of the settings screen to find
out where it lives.
This is a good method when one isn't sure in which submenu a setting is located.

Oh, so you emter a code from the new phone into the old one?

Hi.

The new phone displays the code, and you enter it into the old phone. This is
where I got stuck, because my old phone was looking for a Bluetooth keyboard,
and I didn’t have one paired.

Thanks for the steps but your step 3 is a bit strange. You say 3.-within the
Manual setup, you’ll have to enter a 6-digit pin the new phone displays, into
the new one, and away it goes! I guess you meant the old phone displays the
code which you have to type on the new phone?

Hi, Donald.
I would suggest, if you have access to these services, using Aira or Be My
Eyes. This is especially because of the CAPCHA situation you described.
Hope this helps.

RE: My new iPhone

2022-07-27 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

The new phone displays the code, and you enter it into the old phone. This is
where I got stuck, because my old phone was looking for a Bluetooth keyboard,
and I didn’t have one paired.

Hello Gera
Thanks for the steps but your step 3 is a bit strange. You say 3.-within the
Manual setup, you’ll have to enter a 6-digit pin the new phone displays, into
the new one, and away it goes! I guess you meant the old phone displays the
code which you have to type on the new phone?

Hi.

I tried the method mentioned, but there was a major problem. When I tried to
enter the code on my old iPhone, there was no keypad on the screen to use, and
I think my Bluetooth keyboard was already unpaired from it.

Just my experience. For me, all was well thanks to an iCloud backup. Even my

I haven't found a way to find the barcode or whatever the app uses

giftcard.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

RE: scanning amazon gift cards

2022-07-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
With a gift card the barcode can only be either on the one side or the other. I
suggest when you are in the correct place in the app to put the gift card on a
table, put the phone on top and line it up so the camera lens is approx. in the
middle, then try to lift your phone straight up from the card, probably all
that is needed is 4 or 6 inches for a credit size card. Hold it still for a
moment and if that doesn't do anything repeat with the other side. If you find
it easier you could try it the other way around, put the phone on the table
with the back camera facing up after opening the Amazon app and going to the
right place, then put the gift card on top of the camera and lift it straight
up about 4 or 6 inches. I have done this with Apple gift cards and done it both
ways successfully.

You can of course use Aira or Be My Eyes if you want to first find out where
exactly the barcodes are, e.g. which side and where on the card, e.g. top left,
middle, bottom centre etc. Put down all cards either with the barcode side down
or up as you prefer and then try the above. I know Aira can take pictures with
the regular camera app, not sure if they could actually remotely do these
barcodes for you and add them to your system. I guess if you had a membership
they could log into your computer remotely and do it for you there after
writing down all the numbers first, but that certainly wouldn't be possible in
a 5-minute or less free call.

Best regards,
Sieghard

RE: NFL stream service

2022-07-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Hmm, I have a few questions about this.

I wonder if TuneIn will still be carrying the radio broadcasts of the NFL
games.

I wonder if this will be accessible. I didn't find the NFL Game Pass
accessible. It was so bad, and the NFL Game Pass Support didn't care that there
app wasn't accessible, so I went as far as submitting a complaint to the DoJ
under the ADA. The DoJ thanked me for filing a complaint and said they'd keep
it in the records in case they ever decided to take any action against the NFL.
I recently got a response to my support ticket asking if there was anything
else they could do, but I said that between TuneIn carrying the games and my
complaint to the DoJ, I was good.

This price is a lot cheaper then it used to be when you had to shell out $99 a
year to get access to the radio broadcasts, but it's still quite a bit more
expensive than the NBA where you get all of the radio broadcasts for the entire
season for $10.

This is probably old news to everyone, but I just stumbled across something,
and I’m so excited, I want to share. This is how clueless I am, but I was
looking for a screen recording I’d just done, and not knowing where else to
look, I brought up the camera app. While I was exploring the camera app, I
heard it announcing things like no people, keyboard, … I realized it was
telling me what was on my desk! After playing around, I found out that if you
move focus to the top to the view finder, the camera app will read text to you
and identify objects. I ran downstairs to show my wife, and I heard it say “cat
on a flat surface with a laptop and a glass with a beverage”. I was pointing it
at my kitchen table which had our cat on it, waiting to be fed, my wife’s
laptop and her glass of sparkling water! It’s not going to replace the Seeing
AI app for me yet, but it seemed awfully fast and accurate!

Re: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-27 Thread CHELA Robles
Makes me wish I could have one of the newer models I have an iPhone 8 +256 GB
space gray. At least the InVision app works very well too. I found that seeing
AI was a bit buggy on my phone but I like envision AI as well.

RE: How to end a sentence

2022-07-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I never have a problem on the iPhone, but when I was playing around with
dictation on Windows 10, to get periods inserted, I had to experiment with how
to say period to get it recognized as a punctuation symbol. I'd try different
pauses before you say period, and saying period in different voices.

Help! I'm still going nuts when using dictate, with ending my sentences with a
period. I end up with P E R I O D instead of a dot. what is the official way
to put a period at the end of the sentence? .

I have seen this with various books. What you can do is log onto BookShare via
Safari and download it that way. it could be that a format is not supported by
VDR that it sees but the site will let you change the format.

I wonder if this will be accessible. I didn’t find the NFL Game Pass accessible. It was so bad, and the NFL Game Pass Support didn’t care that there app wasn’t accessible, so I went as far as submitting a complaint to the DoJ under the
ADA. The DoJ thanked me for filing a complaint and said they’d keep it in the records in case they ever decided to take any action against the NFL. I recently got a response to my support ticket asking if there was anything else they could do, but I said that
between TuneIn carrying the games and my complaint to the DoJ, I was good.

This price is a lot cheaper then it used to be when you had to shell out $99 a year to get access to the radio broadcasts, but it’s still quite a bit more expensive than the NBA where you get all of the radio broadcasts for the entire season
 for $10.
