Would you be kind enough to resize one screen to smaller then other
say 800x600. What happens to viewer?

I do not have time to try until this weekend myself.

Go for it. As a matter of fact, http://faq.gotomyvnc.com might be a good
place to post it. Then, in the future when this question is asked I'll
link to it, then tell people to try out both and see what works for them.
I'm not saying it won't be a good source of information, but no matter how
you compare them, different people have different situations and different
needs. Just like when shopping for an automobile, you read the reviews,
but don't make up your mind until you have taken a couple of test drives.

I don't think asking people to do their own testing is too much. The only
thing they will have spent is their time. Now if they were asking about
two proprietary programs that both cost money that would be a different
story (but not much different).

I get the same here, and also did an unstall of 3.x and fresh install
of 4b3. When you're running in server mode, there are server start and
server stop shortcuts on the VNC flyout on the start bar.

v4b3 correctly sizes its viewer desktop to display both ports on my
matrox G550 dualhead as contiguous space. I am running both host
displays at 1024x768, and the viewer as a single 1024x768.

Revisit: Cadence and RealVNC Client

2003-07-28 Thread devnull
Dear All,

I just read through the archives and noticed that several people in the
last month had a similar query regarding "Cadence Slowness"

Jeff Boerio remarked that he had worked with the developers about fixing
the problems.

1. I would like to get a better idea about what exactly the problem is and
so would appreciate some inputs on that.

2. When is the release set(if there is one) for the new client.

Thanks for writing this very useful piece of software.

Just the first example to come to mind that didn't depend on the OP's

Both web pages list their repective features, so I assumed the OP couldn't

http://24.73.89.101:5900 will never work, it is the RFB port.
http://24.73.89.101:5800 should work, though.

On the 192.168.0.100 machine, go to http://www.gotomyvnc.com , verify the
button does say "Run Check Now on '24.73.89.101'". Then hit the button
and tell us the results.

If it has a different address than 24.73.89.101, either your IP changed
(and that is why you are getting connection refused), you have another
firewall in the way, or something is still not right with your port
forwarding on the D-Link.

RealVNC v4b3 Comments, etc...

2003-07-28 Thread Adam Pavelec
Here are a few things I have noticed -- not sure if all qualify as bugs,
but they are at least something to be concerned about...

+ Registry entries are no longer in HKLM\Software\ORL or
HKCU\Software\ORL -- they are now located in HKLM\Software\RealVNC and
HKCU\Software\RealVNC -- this will most likely create additional
confusion.

+ "Options" and "Close VNC Server" are grayed out in the "notification
area icon" -- not sure if this an artifact from a prior install, but I
did remove both HKLM\Software\ORL and HKCU\Software\ORL branches before
installing v4b3.

You can use `iview' ( http://www.irfanview.com/ ) or similar programs
to capture the VNC client window. You can then specify the rectangle
and copy (or crop, or save or whatever) it by the iview.

I'm not aware of any viewer that has this feature, but there is a command-line
app I wrote, vncsnapshot (vncsnapshot.sourceforge.net) that will take a
snapshot of all or a part of the VNC server's screen and save it as a JPEG.
Not as convenient as a UI tool, though.

The :1 and :2 approach is already used to address vnc-sessions to all but
M$Windows vnc-servers and hence should not be used for multi-headed
vnc-sessions. I do know the X11 way to address multiple monitors and hope
vnc does the same/similar: The X11 display name has the next fields:
"[[.]]:[[.]]". Hence,
subsequent monitors can be addressed by remotemachine:0.1, :0.2 and such.

On unix systems, the multi-headed workstations are addressed in both ways
you say, depending on the used hardware. If a workstation is equipped with 2
(or more) video-cards then the video-cards are addressed with their own
display name: ":0.0" and ":0.1" (and subsequent numbers). If a single
video-card has multiple monitor connectors, then this can be configured as
if 2 different video-cards (with 2 different subdisplay numbers) or as a
single, large window.

For vnc on M$Windows, I think the approach is similar. If the M$Windows
system just sees a sinlge display adapter and spreads its windows over both
displays, the vnc-session most likely provides a large (scrollable) window.
I don't know details but I think this knid of multiple display is already
supported by one or more of the vnc implementations.

If the M$Windows machine sees multiple displays (and cannot spread a window
over multiple displays but just on one or the other) then vnc most likely
provides multile windows (maybe addressble with the subdisplaynumber).

In the end, its just up to the imlementation.

btw: I don't think there is much need for the (default) unix vnc server
(Xvnc) to implement subdisplays and such. However, now I think of it, it
can be nice if a kind of Xvnc process can be used to implement the
sub-addressing: start it and get display :0.1 (and :0.2, :0.3 and such).

I have found that after uninstalling VNC, it is very helpful to check
the Windows Registry -- in particular, the following entries:

HKLM\Software\ORL

HKCU\Software\ORL

Especially when trying different flavors of VNC, it is a good idea to
make sure HKCU\Software\ORL is removed before installing VNC again.

My question is how?

I use a large and small monitor. The small one is the main desktop
and the large one is graphical layout for databazse design.

Will these appear as a single larger monitor under VNC or will it
support :0, :1 for these two displays (using Windows sorry). :0 =
