A run on March 18, 2000 at a 30 watt tube current was proceeding steady and normal when suddenly the wattage dropped to ~5 watts input and the temperature increased by over 400 C. in the next few minutes. Without going back and searching my lab notes I recall the voltage remained at about 300 dc and the current dropped way down. I guess this indicates that the tube impedance suddenly increased, but as to why, I don't have a clue. And try as I might over the next year or so I was never able to replicate.
