[voyager] Re: ...memory eating bugs in v3.3.65

2001-02-02 Thread David Steele

Hiya;

 Voyager totally crashes for me all the time when I print, no matter
 what I do... It worked fine before I shoved this CyberGraphics
 card in here...  : /

 Using the workbench printer drivers it is only possible to print off
an 8bit screen :( I had real problems until I heard this, I just drop
V to a lower screen depth when I want to print. Output is really good
however if you are printing from resolutions above 640x480 :))

[voyager] Re: Contact Manager.

2000-12-01 Thread David Steele

hi there;

 I still can't get CManager to remember anything I put into it, plus
 when I try running cmanager alone the program crashes.

 I had this problem too, I fixed it by deleting the root (or whatever
your username is) drawer, and any other files with "root" in the name,
(ie root.data), then reboot, and load cmanager again. It seems to
create a new root drawer which it can use.

[voyager] Re: Screen updates V 3.3alpha35

2000-08-30 Thread David Steele

  Regarding the new .35 alpha though, I am showing some
  strange goings on with (I think) the new image decoders.
Hi Gil et all;

 Well, when I TRY to run .35, I am told I have not installed
 the image decoders correctly... I am still trying to figure
 that one out I did manage to get the text problem fixed,
 and .35 gets a lot farther than before, but now it can't
 find the proper image interpreters... so stops loading...

  ...Is any one else seeing this?

 I found that the image decoders where named the wrong way the
original decoders are named vimgdecode_68040fpu.vlib etc
whereas the new ones in the alpha archive went like
vimgdec_68040fpu.vlib
so I threw both into the plugins directory, and everyones happy :))

Hi There;

  As for the new layout engine: It's about back for some basic browsing
  by now, and if there is enough interest, I can upload an alpha snapshot
  of it as well.

 Me too :))

[voyager] Vflash

2000-06-21 Thread David Steele

Hi All;

 I've just got myself a blizzard PPC card for my a1200, with 64 megs
of ram : The past few days have been spent messing around with
warpOS etc, but I've now got WarpOS going, with ppc.library emulation
going. Vflash doesn't run though, it says in that I have an older
version of ppc.library. It runs really well under the library in the
flashrom, ie with WarpOS not installed on the system.

 Also does anyone know the optimum config for setting up the 040
processor at bootup, for my 030 I used "CPU cache burst", what should
the 040 use???

With the extra memory voyager is now really solid, really makes the
difference :))

[voyager] Re: www.ann.lu 3.2.12

2000-06-07 Thread David Steele

Hello people;

 I don't understand why running out of chip RAM should
cause a crash.
 Surely on the Amiga you request some memory of a particular type,and if
 it isn't available the system returns an error, allowing you to put
up a small requester to warn the user.
 I've seen this in so many programs. Why would Voyager be different?

Is it a bug in MUI?

 Well I used to get a lot of crashes on sites like Czech amiga news or
Amigartthat would steadily run the memory down until it crashed, leaving the
screen full of garish colours. It doesn't seem to happen as much
now. Tonight I installed Fblit for the 1st time, as well as the new
V3ßeta, seem MUCH more stable!!

2000-04-18 Thread David Steele

 Hello Alan Stevens!
Hiya;

 AS- Any one else had trouble with http://www.realdreams.cz/amiga/ ?
 AS-
 AS- It nearly finishes loading the images then crashes with a corrupted
 AS- screen.

I have had that with all versions of voyager 3. When I load it the
memory starts to work itself down to zero, the voyager goes belly up
in a most spectacualr way (wildly garbled screen) I think the site
just needs LOTS of ram.

[voyager] Re: What do you want in Voyager?

2000-04-08 Thread David Steele

Hi;

 I don't understand - I've never really understood why everyone made quite such a big
deal about deleting stuff from the cache, but I've never heard any put it quite like
this before...
 The cache handles itself, so how could you need "more space"??
 It is, after all, just a cache - designed to make your surfing a bit faster, nothing
more...

 When I was paying for internet access, to cut online time to a
minimum, I used to quickly skim through all the sites I needed to see.
This would hold them in the cache, then I'd log off and read them
properly. Ibrowse had a really good cache browser that suited that
sort of use.
 Seems a bit pointless now but other people probably do it as well.

[voyager] Re: Voyager 3 Memory

2000-02-23 Thread David Steele

Hi Len

 Please can anyone tell me the memory usuage of Voyager V3.it seems to be a
 lot more than V 2 and I have been given a figure of 2 Meg but on my A 1200
 it seems to take almost 4 Meg,is there an official figure out there
 anywhere,thanks Ciao for now Len

 I have 6 meg in total here, 2 meg chip, 4 fast. I consider it nowhere
near enough for proper web browsing. Once the stack (Genesis) is
loaded, and voyager is fired up there is 100k fast left, and about 1.4
chip left. Despite the pitiful amount of memory Voyager can stay up
for quite some time. I find that sites with lots of tables, ie Czech
amiga news will run the memory down to zero every time. I don't really
blame voyager. Web browsing is a memory and processor intensive
experence and the sooner my mig gets a PPC card the better.

 Oli's done a great job
