Re: [vpp-dev] IRC SPAM

2018-08-22 Thread Burt Silverman
That pidgin client is totally bizarre. For hours it would not cooperate
regardless of what I told it. When it decided to cooperate, then even if I
removed my password information, it still let me log in without shunting me
to the land of undesirables. Meanwhile, I found the hidden trick to make
the webchat interface work. Weird.

Hi All,

FD.io CSIT-18.07 report has been published on FD.io docs site:

  html: https://docs.fd.io/csit/rls1807/report/
  pdf: https://docs.fd.io/csit/rls1807/report/_static/archive/csit_rls1807.pdf

Many thanks to All in CSIT and FD.io community who contributed and made
CSIT-18.07 happen!

CSIT-18.07 is the first release able to use the brand new FD.io labs and
testing servers equipped the latest Intel Xeon Skylake processors. See point 3.
below for throughput comparison between Skylake and Haswell testbeds.
This is finally making VPP code shine in a modern compute world :)

The labs were long time in the making and they have finally materialized.
Thanks again to All who made it happen!

CSIT-18.07 report includes much more test results data and report html layout
got revamped quite a bit, striving to improve presentation clarity and
browsability. Test environment descriptions also got a substantial makeover.

VPP points of note in the report:

  1. VPP release notes
a. Changes in CSIT-18.07 [1]
b. Known issues [2]

  2. VPP performance graphs
a. Throughput [3]
b. Speedup Multi-Core [4]
c. Latency [5]

  3. VPP performance comparisons
b. VPP-18.07 vs. VPP-18.04 [6]
c. 3-Node Skylake vs. 3-Node Haswell testbed types [7]

  4. VPP performance test details
a. Results [8]
b. Configuration [9]
c. Run-time telemetry [10]

DPDK Testpmd and L3fwd performance sections follow similar structure.

Functional tests, including VPP, HoneyComb, NSH_SFC and DMM are all included in
the report.

Re: [vpp-dev] VPP Memory usage

2018-08-22 Thread Andrew Yourtchenko
Dear Rubina,

ok so looks like the usage within the ACL heap between the start and
the end of your tests increases by 1K, which is tiny - so indeed what
you are seeing in the RSS increase could be the allocations from
within bihash (which does its own memory management).

About decreasing RX I already wrote what I think is happening: because
as you reach the limit of sessions, the increasing number of sessions
end up as transient, and are reused for the new transient session
creation as the new traffic hits, and this is expensive (at this point
in time).

I will need to experiment a bit more to add more telemetry for
debugging this kind of issue - I will do that in a week's time or so
after I am done with other current work items and send you an update.

I’ve updated nat_show_config_reply https://gerrit.fd.io/r/#/c/14411/, hope it
is all here now

I think nat_show_config_reply should be augmented with some fields reflecting
newer features.
You are correct deterministic and endpoint-dependent are mutually exclusive.

Matus,

Should the nat_show_config_reply structure be augmented
to have the (newer) fields added to it?

I'm thinking specifically about:
- the nat64_* values
- the dpo selection,
- the dslite values,
- the endpoint-dependent indication.

Also, it looks like "deterministic" and "endpoint-dependent" are
mutually exclusive. Is that correct?

Thanks,
jdl
