All, I finally got around[1] to bashing together something to dump the graph as a .dot. It's a Python script that uses the papi module. It's not ready to merge yet IMO but I've made the patch public[2] in case anyone else wants to play with it while I work on it. The commit message has my current TODO list for the patch, and an example invocation to produce an SVG of the graph using Graphiz.
