[vserver] Root users differentiation

2006-05-05 Thread joeytrviano
Hello,Sorry for that newbie question but I couldn't find any info about that.I would like to know how host root user and each vserver root users are differentiated by the system. Are they one same user just chrooted in each vserver directory or are there several users named root at different levels?
Thanks a lot,Mehdi Bennani

What I did was to add files to /etc/vservers/vservername/interfaces
dir; basically copying like so: cp -r
/etc/vservers/vservername/interfaces/0/ /etc/vservers/
vservername/interfaces/1/
and then editing the ip and mask files in 1.

Some of my servers have 4 different ips set up this way.

How do I add an IP to a vserver?
I added 2 ips by editing the configuration of the vserver, but now
these
Ips are not accessible from computers outside my lan, as if they do
not
route right.

every root user is different ...

Linux-VServer provides virtualization for GNU/Linux systems. This is
accomplished by kernel level isolation. It allows to run multiple
virtual units at once. Those units are sufficiently isolated to

guarantee the required security, but utilize available resources
^^^
efficiently, as they run on the same kernel.

simply try different passwords for each root user ...

Why do you need vservers ?

A) Many Tasks on the same Box

Also, you can give the root password of a vserver to one administrator
and he will be able to perform updates, restart services and so on
without having to know about every other project hosted on a server.

[Vserver] Vserver on Fedora Core 5 - kernel issue

2006-05-05 Thread Jens Holze
Hi!I just tried to install Vserver after upgrading to Fedora Core 5. I was quite relieved to be able to use the rpms by Daniel and I did exactly as the howto instructed. I installed both kernel(-smp) and utils from dhozac's repository. However when I wanted to finish and rebooted I realized that the system didn't come up . Actually it hangs right after the message activating quotas... appears and the boot process switches to graphical booting. The system just locks and that's it.
I do have these two kernels installed right now: 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 which was there initially and 2.6.16-1.2107_FC5.vs2.0.2.0.rc19.1 . The first kernel still works fine. I also tried the patched non-smp kernel, same thing. Anybody here who experienced something similar? I let the system wait over night and somehow the boot process must have continued at one point but the system seemed broken then.
Any idea is apreciated!RegardsJens Holze-- Wars not make one great - Master Yoda[EMAIL PROTECTED] -

Re: [Vserver] Newbie question

2006-05-05 Thread Guenther Fuchs
Hi there,

on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 5:58:56 AM there was posted:

BS AFAIK the build methods of util-vserver build FC vservers with a minimum
BS of installed packages. less, rpm and man are not bash commands but
BS separate programs which are probably simply not installed yet.

This is fully correct. All three are separate RPMs which need to be
installed first. See the HowTo for installation instructions.

1.2107_FC5 was a bit of a brown paper bag release upstream, which was
eventually pulled from the updates repository. Unfortunately, a new one
hasn't been pushed yet, and I'm not sure if all of the issues are fixed
in CVS yet. Hopefully a new one will be released shortly.

[Vserver] What is the best way to connect from 1 vserver to other vserver within the same host ?

2006-05-05 Thread Sébastien CRAMATTE

Hello

What is the best way to connect from 1 vserver to other vserver within
the same host ?

I've got an Ldap directory inside one vserver and a postfix that use
ldap in another vserver.
I search the best way to connect to the ldap server with the maximum of
security.

The postfix server is a public mail server. The ldap directory is private.
A private IP on the postfix server seems to be the easier but ...
maybe it exists a clever solution ?

Thanks for your advices and solutions
