You didn't mention which OS X version. I've always had trouble with

CommPost: Zytech specials

2004-11-23 Thread Zytech - your online data and technology store

Hi all!

With less than 5 weeks to Xmas we've put together some great savings
from your online data and technology store - Zytech.

But first. For those of you who haven't yet updated to Mac OS X
10.3.6, there have been a few reports of various problems encountered
when running the standard update. With all Mac OS updates, its always
best to use the combo update. Although a hefty 90MB+ download, it is
well worth the time to ensure your system does not run into any
problems. While you may not encounter any glitches, its also best to
ensure no peripheral devices, including firewire devices are attached
to your system while the update is being performed. Refer to the
following link for the combo update:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate_10_3_6.html

Now for the specials!

We've taken 10% and 20% off selected stocks of our flash drives and our
512MB flash drive has been reduced to a crazy $99, but stricly while
stocks last. Check them all out from the following link:

http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGYCategory_Code=FM

We've recently added a few new products to our site, check out the PS-2
Wireless 'AirFlo' controller for something different or the Harman
Soundsticks on special for $275 + delivery. See our homepage:

http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?

For any considering flash drives for giveaways or corporate promotions,
time is slipping by fast to ensure you get your drives before Xmas.

Till next time -

empty cache

2004-11-23 Thread Eugene

Hi all,

With respect to my previous posting regarding emptying Safari's Cache
automatically. I have tried a script (found on the internet) that
invokes the 'empty cache' option on Safari. I was going to put it as an
application in the logout folder in the student's workspace. It seems
to read well but comes up with an error. Here is the script:

tell application Safari
activate
tell application System Events
tell process Safari
click menu item Empty Cache... of menu Safari of
menu bar 1
end tell
end tell
end tell

However it returns the error:

System Events got an error
NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError 4

A search on the internet reveals the error stating the object doesn’t

Can any one put me on the right track?

The ellipsis (...) after Empty Cache should be a proper ellipsis (ie option-:)

You'll also need to tell Safari to click the Empty button after
selecting that menu item :)

Probably easier to just quit Safari and delete the cache files from
~/Library/Caches

alternative. Some years ago someone in WAMUG said that they set aside an area

the technique and have found it effective.

-- It means that when the cache fills up, most applications will automatically
clear it for the new stuff. Also, if you close down, the RAM Disk is emptied.
No space is used on your hard disk, and because the cache is actually in
memory, accessing recently-cached stuff is very fast. Maybe this will help.

iCal 1.5.4 includes security enhancements to help protect your computer

iCal version 1.5.3 was apparently never released as a Software Update,

New iPod problems

2004-11-23 Thread Matt Morgan

Folks,

Seem to have two problems with the new iPod, but not sure if its
something simple. I'd appreciate any ideas:

First problem is that I cannot reset. Tried it many times and held
select and menu down and toggled the top bit etc.

New 60GB iPod Photo
ITunes 4.7

I put all the music on an external LaCie 80GB drive, but transferred
the lot over to another external LaCie 500GB drive with 800 Firewire.
This was because I'm using my powerbook which only has one 400 firewire
port, so I couldn't sync via firewire with the hard drive attached.
Trying to sync with USB 2 was painfully slow. I changed the preferences
to the right drive and updated playlists.

Synced 14,000 songs in and can see that over 33GB has been used which
ties in with the amount shown in iTunes.

Although a bit clunky and disc noisy, everything seems to work OK, such
as going from music menu through to playlists, albums, artists etc.
However, the one that I need and use all the time is via SONGS. I
normally just leave shuffle on and that's it.

This iPod though, goes through to the SONGS list, which I can scroll up
or down, but when I click to play, it won't play at all, sort of
freezes for a few seconds, then reverts back up the menu to Music.

I've tried clean restores twice and synced again. Same problem.

I've now just flashed up the G4 tower and synced from my other iTunes,
which cleared out the powerbook library and installed the other - same
problem just on SONGS. So, to me, this seems it's the iPod, not the
computers or libraries.

Ever come across this before?

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

Cinema display interference

2004-11-23 Thread Matt Morgan

While I'm in problem-solving mode, I'd like to pick the forum's brains
again if I may.

I have a 23 Apple Cinema Display that is normally used with the G4
Tower, also connecting a 17 display as well with the DVI to ADC
adaptor. Screen is fine.

I've recently attached the 23 via the DVI to ADC adaptor to my
powerbook, and have since had a lot of noise/interference/buzzy lines
in some areas of colour on the screen.

Anyone know what this is?

Thanks, Matt.
