I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700 camera and iPhoto 6 under 10.4.6. I
take photos in RAW format which I peel off the Compact Flash card via
a reader and then process in Photoshop CS2. iPhoto 6 lists my
camera as compatible, likewise my Flash Card Reader. The raw files
are in Nikon .NEF format and open correctly in Photoshop.
However in Image Capture or iPhoto 6 they will not read. In both
cases they are seen correctly but on importing come up with an
error message that they could not be imported. This happens either
plugged into the camera directly, the Flash Card in the reader of
for downloaded files on my hard disk.
Has anyone any help to offer on this one please. It would be so nice
to file the raw photos straight into iPhoto.

Hi Severin,

I don't think the Nikon 5700 D200 are compatible with iPhoto6 for

the RAW format.

Try BibbleLite from Bibble Labs.Version 4.5. I beleive its
free and certiainly converts Nikon RAWs for me without difficulty.

Hi Colin,

No Access blocks all access to the item so that users can't open the
item, change its contents, or copy its contents.

But take note that changing permissions on a folder and all it's
contents to 'No Access' to others DOES NOT encrypt the contents of
the folder.

To change permissions for a disk, folder, or file:
1. Select the item you want to set permissions for, then choose File
Get Info and click Ownership Permissions, if necessary. If you
want to set permissions for multiple items at once, select them, and
as you hold down the Control key choose File Get Summary Info.

2. Choose a permission for yourself from the pop-up menu. If the menu
is dimmed, you don't have permission to change this setting.

3. To change permissions for the owner, group, or others, click
Detail. If necessary, click the lock icon and, when prompted, enter
the name and password of an administrator user of your computer.

4.Choose permissions for each type of user from the Access pop-up menus.

Cheers,
Ronni

Adobes DNG converter great archival format, if Adobe supports your
camera within their RAW format conversion plug-in.

DNG also saves the original file in its native format untouched, must
select in options though.

DNG works in most photo manipulation programs, not sure with iPhoto
would appreciate confirmation.

Captures complete colour spectrum of original file format, so all
data is still their and useable.

Free and fairly quick even with minimal hardware. Can be a little
slow in converting within program of choice though.

Also check out Adobe Lightroom a free Beta at moment.

Cheers!
`Rob...

Adobe Website info:-

Key benefits for photographers:

The DNG format helps promote archival confidence, since digital-
imaging software solutions will be able to open your raw files more
easily in the future.

A single raw processing solution enables a more efficient workflow
when handling raw files from multiple camera models and manufacturers.

A publicly documented and readily available specification can be
easily adopted by camera manufacturers and updated to accommodate
future technological changes.

Key benefits for hardware and software manufacturers:

DNG removes a potential barrier to new camera adoption, since raw
files from new models will be instantly supported by Photoshop and
other applications.

The DNG format allows for RD savings by eliminating the need to
develop new formats and simplifying camera testing.

A common format allows for greater control over the quality of
conversions by third-party applications.

The specification allows for the addition of private metadata to DNG
files, enabling differentiation.

Internet speed

2006-04-17 Thread Lloyd White

Hope you are all rested after the Easter break.

Can anyone tell me where I look to measure my internet or download speed?
Is there a monitor built in? I am supposed to have a 512k ADSL and it is SO
SLOW since I upgraded to OSX 10.4.6.

The new Intel advert that Glen posted took 40 seconds before the stationary
figure appeared and was still stationary after 3 minutes with the bar slowly
creeping across. I gave up then.

It also takes 70 seconds to download 30 seconds of music from the Apple
Store.

Further information.

I checked the Network in the Activity monitor while downloading that Intel
ad and it showed 7.9KB/sec. Is that slow?

Your upload speed is normal for a 512/128 I think.

My Westnet 512/128 tests as 47 KB/sec down and 11.7 KB/sec up.
