Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
Yes, it is still happening as of 5 minutes ago. Only with bigpond addresses. I am using iinet too. Lloyd Not rectified though Ronni, I just got another Delivery Status Notification email (delivery attempts: 12) for an email sent around 13:00 yesterday. Thanks for the help! Re: WARNING AND SORRY
I don't think Peter has anything to be sorry about. I got the same immediate response after I sent a message to the WAMUG server and I hadn't looked at his or anyone elses posts for a couple of days. The message that came through had a link to a Russian chat list. Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
I am now getting the same with sending several different emails to bigpond addresses through Optusnet. I think this is bigger than just blocking certain servers. Are any bigpond users getting their mail delivered to other bigpond addresses? Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
Yes, I've also been having trouble with bigpond addresses again just lately. I had a major problem around Christmas and also with some other domains. Come to find out, some bright spark with our same IP address decided to send out a massive quantity of spam, so everything was being rejected by major domains around the worldbigpond, hotmail, comcast, etc. It took nearly 2 weeks to completely clear. Don't know if that's what's happening now, but would guess not as I've only a fraction of bounce-backs and only from bigpond this time. To keep an eye on things I sent off a couple of test emails to my bigpond address. Later the connection problem seemed to resolve and I no longer get error messages trying to retrieve mail - however my test messages did not come back. Then I got a Delivery Status Notification email - similar to the one below but at less delivery attempts (5 from memory). So I sent another (third) test message - and this went through OK and I received it back very quickly - so I assumed everything was now OK (though I wondered what happened to the first two test messages). This morning when I fired up the email there were more Delivery Status Notification emails (including one below) which correspond to both the first two test messages. So I sent another test message - and so far I have not got that back either (no Delivery Status Notifications for this one yet). So... If I am reading the error message correctly: - the SMTP server at my ISP Internode is still trying to send my first two test messages but bigpond is not accepting them? - although the message says temporary failure and not accepting messages at this time a subsequent message (test 3) WAS accepted and got through (so messages WERE being accepted at that time) but the original two were still not accepted. - although no Delivery Status Notification has been received as yet, a fourth test email has still not been received despite a number of receive attempts which seemed to connect without problem - so it seems bigpond is still not accepting email to my bigpond address. Is anyone else with bigpond experiencing similar problems. Anyone have any ideas? By the way, just to clarify: - I used to have bigpond dial-up so have a bigpond email account. - I went to Broadband with Internode (so all outgoing emails are sent through the Internode SMTP serverbut kept the cheapest bigpond dial-up ($25/year) to keep my bigpond email address. Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
As a Westnet user I have watched the 'Bigpond problem' with interest. i must admit I have wondered what the contract specifies. Surely there must be someway that the user can demand that Bigpond delivers legitimate emails delivered to them. Despite their size they are still subject to the law of contract. Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
I've been having this problem since last Friday. Once I identified what was going on I have been contacting bigpond users by phone to send them important information. In the long run this will be a PRO disaster for Bigpond. Many of its users now know they are not getting important emails they need. Some of them will shift. Serve Bigpond right. Re: Bigpond mail problems: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
Thanks to all who replied - it's good to know you're not alone (of course, it would be even better if it all just worked!). This morning, my three outstanding test messages were all delivered - so I'm guessing that Pigpond have finally got it working. The trouble is, of course, that although the server I go through warned me: Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours Will keep trying until message is 5 days old many sending servers (newsletters etc) are probably not set to keep trying that long - so those emails will just get lost. There can also be other consequences: Recently I had a recurring problem with the mail server at the hosting provider for my personal domain (to be fair to them, I am currently on a free service and they understandably prioritise paying customers). I then noticed that I seemed to have stopped getting a number of Fairfax newsletters which I had subscribed to using email addresses on that domain. The provider assured me that there was now nothing stopping the newsletters getting through and a check on the Fairfax site confirmed I was still subscribed. It then occurred to me that the newsletter server might have some automated process which flags you as a problem or non-existent email address if too many messages are undelivered - without actually unsubscribing you. Just re-setting my subscriptions didn't seem to help, so I unsubscribed myself from the lists which had stopped getting through and after waiting for more than 24 hours (which Fairfax says it can take for changes to take effect) I then re-subscribed to the lists. This seemed to do the trick and I started receiving the newsletters again. So just in case anyone with a Bigpond email address was missing newsletters during the latest problems - and the newsletters don't re-start after the problem is fixed - that is a possible explanation/solution.
