How to free up room on Time Capsule ?

2009-04-09 Thread Steven Knowles
I've added another Mac to my fleet, and when setting it up to back up
to the existing Time Capsule, there is no room on the Time Capsule,
says Time Capsule.

How do I tell Time Capsule to make a bit of room, presumably by not
having so much history of the three other machines that back up o it?

Cheers, Steven

Re: [FREE] Epson Stylus Photo 895 colour printer, and HP 6MP Laser printer + mini Ethernet print server

2009-04-09 Thread KEVIN Lock

Derk,

The Epson sounds like a good printer to match up with one of my Macs
in my give-away project.

Please advise me if nobody else wants it.

regards

Kevin

Hi WAMUG folks.

I'm giving away FREE my two home printers. An Epson Stylus 895
colour printer, and a HP 6MP monochrome laser printer.

Epson printer Includes:
* The original printer (only used with genuine ink)
* Adjustable paper roll holder (plus takes normal A4 paper too)
* 100mm premium semi-gloss paper roll
* 210mm premium semi-gloss paper roll
* T007 (black) and T008 (colour) replacement ink cartridges (plus a
set still in the printer)

* USB + Mac OS X friendly printer
* Been used very little, since I use a laser printer for all
non-photo printing

Printer looks like this (+ the paper roll holder too, not pictured).
http://www.nexadyne.com/neXadyne/Products/Images/Printers/Epson-895.jpg

It has been wrapped in plastic while not in use... probably needs a
quick head-clean though before it's next use. Believed to be in full
working order, ready for a new home :-).

Also, I have a HP 6MP Laserjet printer, with external mini Ethernet
print-server, to hook it up easily to your Mac, or to your network.

Printer looks like this:
http://lee.org/blog/images/goodthingspage-hp6mp.jpg
and has been used as a home laser printer.

Also includes some spare parts I've collected, but not yet installed.

The HP 6MP is in working order, although, probably needs a bit of a
clean inside at some point.

To the first person(s) interested... (happily to give the printers
away separately).

Cheers,
Derek

Re: HD movies and recorders

Hi Mugs

I have just received an email from Elgato advertising their 'Turbo .
264 HD' device that will do ' high quality conversion from HD video
files and AVCHD cam corders that can be played on the mac, iphone
etc' which does sound really interesting.

However, being a complete novice in this field I wouldnt have a clue
what a AVCHD cam corder is and I have been contemplating going into
HD recording for my whale work. I want to use it for whale
identification and behavioural purposes. I have used an early
version of iMovie, some years ago, with digitised footage from a
small format movie camera and imagine that imovie will be the way to
go?

Have any of you guys experience with this part of our great Mac
experience and can point me in the right direction? Im keen on a HD
good quality recorder (that may even have underwater housing
capability) with the view to getting footage that I can use on my
mac as well as my HD tele?

From some of the advertising down here in Busso I have noticed Sony,
Canon and JVC etc have some HD recorders.but which one!!?

Kindest regards and best wishes for a safe and relaxing Easter.

Hi Chris

If you don't have any of the Elgato products they are worth it just
for the great features they have with digital TV and what you can do
with it. As for being able to convert AVCHD from a camcorder to the
mac sounds even better.
Just remember the higher the quality, the larger the file size and the
longer it will take to convert/edit.

Which camera, from personnel experience don't get JVC. I bought a GZ-
HD7 a little over a year ago and they are not compatible with Mac.

You mentioned whale work so I am guessing you may get a little wet at
times. The Sanyo that Martin has suggested would great for working on
the surface but if going a little deeper than that you will need a
proper underwater housing and for that I would recommend Sony.
If you drop in to the local dive shop in Busso and pick up a free copy
of the "Dive Log" magazine you will find lots of ads for camera
equipment. Be prepared though the cost of the housing will be 2 or 3
times more than the cost of the camera

good luck and I hope we get to see some great whale shots

regards

It's pretty hard to turn a dollar on Macs. The margins are miniscule
and they were running a big operation, lots of staff.

My only suprise is they lasted as long as they did.

They had moved from Mt Hawthorn to Osborne Park not long ago. I
believe they are still open though, just being run by the receivers.
