Re: Mac mini sound output

2009-07-30 Thread James / Hans Kunz

frying that sort of output is difficult because there is a limiter
resitor in it
check your iphone headphone, if there is a mic built in then the plug
may have 3 rings = not compatible
do you have powered speakers around, they should have that mini jack
(3mm) plug aswell, if it's a true 'line out' then headphones may not
work @ all
another thing: may be you phone techie placed a short onto the audio
in..you should get him in to fix the problem for free

cheers James

Hi all,

I have a Mac Mini that I use to provide an on hold service on our
telephone system. This plugs from the little sound output plug on
the back
into the phone system, and has worked faultlessly until we had a
technician

in to play around with the system yesterday.

It appears that the mac no longer outputs sound from the port. If I
pull the
plug out, the sound plays through the speakers, but if I plug it
back in, no

sound is forthcoming. I have checked with iphone earphones an I am not
getting anything there either.

I have two questions:

1. Could something to do with the phone system have fried my sound
output?

2. If this might be the case, who should I send it to to try to fix
it?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello John,

Try Disconnecting the AC Power Adapter, then Shutdown (NOT Restart)

Re: Bluetooth problem

2009-07-30 Thread James Devenish

Hi John,

I have a MacBook Pro 15 with Leopard, probably the most disappointing
and flawed Mac I've had in a long time. One of the many day-to-day
frustrations is that Bluetooth drops out when used with my Apple
Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard. There is no such
problem with any of my other Macs. Apple issued a FirmWare update, but
it has not helped. To get Bluetooth working again, I have gone into
Bluetooth preferences and chosen Show Bluetooth status in the menu
bar. When Bluetooth drops out, I use the trackpad (which is the
MacBook Pro's redeeming feature) to go into the Bluetooth menu and
Disconnect one of the devices. When I do this, all devices re-connect
(including the one I just 'Disconnected') and Bluetooth is working
again. Works every time for me.

Re: Bluetooth problem

2009-07-30 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi John,

Had a feeling the easy fix would not last. A huge amount of people
have had and are having this problem, especially with the MacBook.
Some have found success in the easy fix, some with resetting the
PRAM, some by resetting the SMC.

To reset the SMC:
1. Shutdown your Macbook
2. Disconnect the AC power adapter remove the battery.
3. Press hold down the power button for five seconds then release
the button

4. Reconnect the battery and AC power adapter
5. Press the power button to restart

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

To reset the PRAM:
1. Cold Reboot your computer (turn it off, wait, turn it on)
2. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously:
Command-Option-P-R.
Hold the keys down until you hear the startup chime at least one
additional time after the initial startup chime.

3. Release the keys

Also, bear in mind that Bluetooth is on the same 2.5GHz band shared by
many other devices such wifi, cordless phones etc, so you may want to
check for those in the near vicinity as well.
