Free Converter Software (1 day left) and iMac price drops

2010-11-03 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi All

For those that may be interested, there is a free download of a video
converter program. Seems ok from my quick look of it.

Only one day left to go though,..
http://www.winxdvd.com/giveaway/
Note the free version says no free update or technical support is
provided.
So you get that one version only,...

Also, the iMac and MacMini quietly had a price drop last night.
$100 off the MacMini and about $150 off the iMac range.

Enjoy

Kind Regards
Daniel

Dreamweaver - how to show hidden files on server

2010-11-03 Thread Tim Law

Hello,

I have Dreamweaver CS5 11.0.3 and OSX 10.6.4 on my Mac Mini 2.53GHz with 4GB RAM

I cannot view hidden files i.e. files beginning with a period . such as
.htaccess and .htpasswd files on the FTP server.

I have figured out how to see and download the files from the server using
Cyberduck. But not with Dreamweaver which keeps them hidden and doesn't even
recognise they are there when I click 'find file on remote server'.

Once downloaded to my local folder, I CAN open it using Dreamweaver, or Text
Wrangler, modify it and upload it again, but does anyone know the trick to
viewing the file directly on the server to save this double handling.

I have searched the Adobe help sites and various blogs using Google. The only
work around seem to relate to PC versions of Dreamweaver.

An solution for Dreamweaver OSX would be seem needed.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim

A quick google search for Dreamweaver mac hidden files, points to using
Fetch to do it.
The google search page was here:-

Re: Dreamweaver - how to show hidden files on server

2010-11-03 Thread Tim Law

Thanks Daniel,

I can use Fetch to see both server and local files, and this is one step more
advanced than I can now, which is using Cyberduck or Text Wrangler to see the
hidden files on the server, but not locally at the same time.

I was hoping for a solution that would allow Dreamweaver to view the hidden
files on the server.

Even if I use Fetch as I understand it is described in the links, then I still
need to use Dreamweaver, or an editor such as Text Wrangler (BBEdit) to work
with the files. It'd be nice to have one tool do the lot.

.

A bit later
A bit more hunting around

Eureka, I have found it!!
But it will take a few screen prints to show the technique as I can't explain
it by words.
It's not using Fetch at all, just some settings in Dreamweaver.
I must say that these settings are NOT described in the Dreamweaver help files
and there are very quirky ways to find them.

This is the posting that got me onto the right track.

Well yes, but none of the postings showed me the whole solution and referred to
a little box that wasn't showing on my screen.

I'm rather pleased to be able to add something constructive to the community of
the bewildered.

BTW, I was pleased with the search results you gave me Daniel thanks. Google
must throw up different results if you enter the search words in different
order. I had done a number of searches using similar words but obviously in a
different order and not found those references - which led me on to the tips
that gave me the final solution.

Thanks

Tim

Re: Dreamweaver - how to show hidden files on server

2010-11-03 Thread Daniel Kerr

Yes, always nice to be able to give back ;)
And I'm sure someone else will come across it sometime and be most grateful!
You'll get the standard OMG, I spent HOURS on this and you just saved me so
much more time! response,..or something like that :o)

Glad the search helped point you in the right direction.
I always tend to try a couple of search strings. I first use the question
I'm waiting to know in Google eg, how do I show hidden files in Dreamweaver
for Mac.
If that looks like a lost cause, I just use the key words dreamweaver mac
hidden files.
Doesn't always have the answer, but if it helps point in the right
direction, then it's a good start :o)

But glad you got a good result, that's always the main thing.
(There was a program called TinkerTool that allows you to show hidden files,
which I was also going to mention if all else failed,...but it can be VERY
DANGEROUS. Given it shows all system hidden files as well, if it's left
showing, and then down the track you go,.hmmm whats that,.dunno, mustn't
need it. Trash. Oh oharrrgghh. Computer won't boot. (Or something along
those lines,..) you do have to be very careful with it.
(Did I stress that point enough...hehe).
But for some things it can be quite useful if you know what you're looking
for. :o)

Kind Regards
Daniel

BTW, I was pleased with the search results you gave me Daniel thanks. Google
must throw up different results if you enter the search words in different
order. I had done a number of searches using similar words but obviously in a
different order and not found those references - which led me on to the tips
that gave me the final solution.

I was hoping for a solution that would allow Dreamweaver to view the hidden

Even if I use Fetch as I understand it is described in the links, then I
still need to use Dreamweaver, or an editor such as Text Wrangler (BBEdit)

It's not using Fetch at all, just some settings in Dreamweaver.
I must say that these settings are NOT described in the Dreamweaver help

Re: Duplicate events in iCal

2010-11-03 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Blitto,

Are the duplicates ONLY in iCal on your Mac?

If so: Check you iCal preferences for a 2nd account. If it shows a 2nd account,
delete the one that is NOT your login id for your MobileMe account and that
hopefully will delete the duplicate events.

I checked my preferences and it lists one account, ro...@me.com. The upgrade
seemed to have change it from ro...@mac.com.
On the actual calendar I now have ro...@me ... but no ro...@mac listed on the
left hand column.
But, I've read where others have found two accounts listed … the @me.com
@mac.com … therefore having duplicate events.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Severin,

In view options, both size and get all sizes need to be enabled. The former
only shows file sizes.

Hi Severin,

I've replied to you and The List in case anyone using Leopard searches the 'The
Archives' ;-)

To display Folder sizes in List view, go to View in the MenuBar and select Show
View Options. In the window that opens, look down to the bottom section and
place a tick in the 'Calculate All Sizes' box.
Then wait while Finder performs the calculations and the folder sizes should
now be shown.
If they still don't show, make sure there's a tick in the 'Show Columns - Kind'
box.

In list view, Finder will show file sizes in the window.
To also show folder sizes, enable Calculate All Sizes in Finder's View Options.

In icon view, if you enable Show Item Info, although it won't show the size, it
will show how many items are inside the folder.

In column view, clicking on a file will show its size along with a preview and
other information.

Cheers,
Ronni
