Re: Copy large files
Hi again Peter, Apparently the Samsung TV isn't compatible with exFAT format. So your only choice is NTFS To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X you need to install NTFS-3G for Mac OS X (free) http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/ntfs-3g-for-mac-os-x-2010102.html Cheers, Ronni Sent from Ronni's iPad On 09/04/2012, at 1:35 PM, Ronda Brown ro...@mac.com wrote: Hi Peter, I don’t know anything about the Samsung TV, but if it is running formats compatible with Windows 7 or Windows Vista SP1 I would suggest you could format the 1TB external drive in “exFAT” format. Pros: Can work with large files. Cons: Not compatible with older operating systems. You must have Mac OS X 10.6.5 or newer, and PCs need to be Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7, or newer. Although it is possible to format a drive as exFAT from Disk Utility on the Mac, that drive will not work with Windows PCs. To format the drive to work with both platforms you will need use a Windows computer to format the disk as exFAT. How to format using exFAT: 1. Plug the disk into a Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 computer. 2. Open the Computer window. 3. Right click on the drive, and select Format. 4. Select exFAT from the drop down box, and click on Start. 5. Done! Now this drive will work with Macs and PCs. Although FAT is more compatible with older systems, the maximum 4GB file size is very limiting. You would not be able to use this disk for long HD videos and large disk images, for example. For this reason I would recommend exFAT. By this point in time, most computers you encounter will work fine with exFAT. Re: Ominous iMac Ticking.
Hi Callum, Does not sound good, normally hearing a clicking sound in the Hard Drive indicates the Hard Drive is failing. I hope you have current backups before this happened as the Drive could completely die very quickly. Then it is extremely hard sometimes impossible to recover your Data. One thing you could try is see if it will Safe Boot: Hold the Shift key down at startup. Give it lots of time; it's checking and repairing the drive, if possible. If that won't work, try booting from the Install DVD holding down the C key, open Disk Utility and Repair the drive. Failing that you need to backup quickly… if you can; or haven’t a current backup; and get someone like Daniel Kerr to have a look at it and if it is a failing / dead Hard Drive he could purchase and install a new hard drive for you. Shut Down the iMac and don’t use it until the problem is correctly. The more you use it the more chance you have of loosing your Data. This is fine for outgoings and mostly for incoming. However I usually enlarge texts where needed. I can do this by going: Format StyleBigger. (It works) But I prefer keyboard strokes: Command and + This does *not* work. Is there something that needs resetting to get back the keyboard operation? Re: Mail text size
Actually Bill if we wish to be exact in our terminology. It should read as the keys “Command - =“ because to type “+” you depress the shift key ;-)) To type = you don’t depress any key other than = But Apple do say “Command - +” to enlarge Text? Mobile me to iCloud help needed
Hi All, A long-time client of mine needs a little bit of help with setting up iCloud. It's now an issue for her because she needs to travel in a week and wants to sort it prior to leaving. I can't help as I am working full-time so I can no longer do consultant work. She is a professional person, friendly and courteous. If anyone can spare an hour in the Fremantle area she will be most grateful. Please contact me off list for more information. While I've been waiting for my almost definitely volatile hard drive to back up (thanks Ronni!) Re: Mail text size
I have no usage for command and + that I know of. It works fine in FireFox, and used to work in Mail (I think) Bill On 10/04/2012, at 11:56 AM, Ronda Brown wrote: Actually Bill if we wish to be exact in our terminology.
