Re: How can I stop folders using the All My Files view?
Thanks Ronni, Looks like this is not a common issue, I'll provide more details about what is happening. Firstly, if you are like me and don’t find “All My Files” that useful, you can do what I have done and 'hide it away’. - already done, long ago At first glance that’s all you need to do, but you’ll soon notice that every new Finder window now opens with All My Files” displayed by default. - I don't have All My Files as the default, changed long ago If you don’t find your answer to your Finder View problem Glenn, please post back. In summary: - I turned off the relevant All My Files preferences after upgrading to Lion - in most situations, Finder windows behave normally, using List view etc and responding to View Options - but ... when a Finder window displays either the Desktop or Downloads directory, then and only then does the Finder window switch to using the All My Files style of presentation. That is, if you set the Arrange setting to any date based option, it breaks by Today, Yesterday etc, and changes treatment of column headings, stopping any clicking on the date column to change ascending/descending etc. It is not possible to view either of these directories using the normal List view - If from that Finder window I change the display to any directory other than Desktop or Downloads, Finder drops the All My Files style of display behaves normally with List view etc. This is a bit strange, here is a link to some screenshots showing examples. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/225757/StuckWithAllMyFiles.pdf Thanks for your interest in this Ronni. Re: Mail text size
Hi People who have been following this subject, We have exhausted every way of making Mail Text larger, but please bear with me just for one last response. I have been annoyed for years with incoming mail from Windows Users showing much smaller than other incoming mail. I actually get annoyed that Windows Users even email me… (only kidding Wendy at work, who uses a Mac in her ‘Real Life' ;-)) Well, today I was determined to solve this annoying problem, and I have achieved what I set out to achieve. My eyes are not as good as they used to be, (it’s not anything to do with ‘Age’ Daniel)… it’s spending anything up to 20 hours a day working on computer screens. So I like my email font at size16… The Solution: The tiny font problem usually involves HTML mail coming from Windows users (why don’t they get a Mac to email me)! Fortunately, you can set Mail to have a minimum that it will use for HTML messages... but you have to go to the Terminal for it. 1. Quit Mail 2. Open Terminal.app 3. Copy Paste in the following command: defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 16 Note that you can use any size you like, it does not have to be 16. For eyes that can see well, probably 12. If you don't like it, run the command again with a different number. Hi Ian You should find Skype already installed. (Have a look in your Applications folder). Otherwise you can download it from here:- http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/ Free version is generally fine. Re: Death Of Microsoft Word
A courageous article!! Fortunately the OSX version I use, 12 I think, doesn't have the same AWFUL bloated toolbars of the PC version. Where Word failed for me this week was when I tried to PDF a 155 page report that included a lot of internal cross reference links. Epic fail to send any of the hot links into the PDF format. I opened the document in OSX Pages, saved it as a PDF and voila, all links worked properly when PDF'd. If only Pages did styles and stylesheets better it'd be an able replacement for Word for my report writing work. Dropbox (for Dummies)

Another question: if i load the dropbox ap on my iphone - will ALL the stuff somehow sync to the phone as well??? But there isnt enough room.Or does the phone ap just look for the stuff on the website??? Finally - is the Dropbox site secure enough to be putting my personal files on? Hi Blitto, Have you checked https://www.dropbox.com/help it answers a lot of your questions. There is a wiki site too: http://blog.dropbox.com/ And actually there is a Dropbox 4 Dummies … it’s for Windows of course ;-) but it does show the iPhone. http://dropbox4dummies.blogspot.com.au/ Your life's work, wherever you are: Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere. Hi Blitto, Ronni (as usual) has given you lots of good stuff and links to more - so I won't try to add to the general stuff. With regard to your specific query re the phone version: Another question: if i load the dropbox ap on my iphone - will ALL the stuff somehow sync to the phone as well??? But there isnt enough room.Or does the phone ap just look for the stuff on the website??? Dropbox is (I think) particularly good here - as you browse, it downloads the index so that your phone sees all the documents in your dropbox folder in the cloud - but it doesn't try to download them all and fill up your phone :o) What happens is if you try and access one of the documents, it downloads that specific document so you can use it but, by default, it doesn't keep it. However, if you WANT that specific document on your phone you can hit the favourites button and the document will then be kept on the phone. I found this particularly useful on our overseas trip where we usually had wi-fi at the hotel but not out-and-about - prior to our trip I put lots of useful info (walks, transport maps timetables etc) into dropbox then when we got to a new city I would get the info when I was wi-fi connected and mark as favorite to keep it on the phone for when we were out of wi-fi contact.
