Mirror iPad to External Display

2015-04-14 Thread Alan Smith
I have problems trying to mirror my iPad2 display with the correct aspect ratio
to an external monitor. The iPad mirrored output is widescreen (therefore
stretched) on a new monitor. I am using a genuine Apple 30 pin to VGA adapter.
I am not wanting to watch movies etc, so in-app resolution settings are not
applicable. How do I get a better iPad (4:3?) display ratio on the monitor?

I today bought an HP monitor (model 20wd LED backlit 19 inch) with a maximum
and recommended resolution of 1600 X 900 @ 60Hz. It has inputs for VGA and DVI
and incorporates several (8) preset computer supported display modes ranging
from 640x480 up to 1600x900. I cannot adjust screen resolution on the monitor.
HP documentation says to adjust display modes at the PC! The monitor menu has
an item for “Image Control”, but the “custom scaling” option is grayed out.
The option for “Auto-adjustment” seems to be the default or over-riding setting
for a VGA input - I can’t turn it off.

Has the iPad a setting to give an output of say 1024 X 768 (4:3 ratio)? Or is
distorted “widescreen” the only iPad option when used with a modern monitor?
(Or, should I re-read the HP user manual - and Apple Support documention -
more carefully?)

Regards,
Alan

Hi All.

This evening I received an e-mail from a very busy Ronni Brown, the only reply
that I have received to day, except a personal reply from Daniel who reset my
e-mail address so that I could post a query, thank you Daniel.

Ronni sent me instructions as to “how to set my iPhone and my iPad up to
wirelessly work together”, giving me a personal Modem.

Thank you Ronni, your help, as always, has ended my two days of frustration.

Kind Regards

Tony

I am running 10.6.8 as well with no plans to upgrade (not that I could with our
internet connection speed - the download would take many many hours and would
almost certainly fail before it completed).

I am on Photoshop Elements 4 which does more than I need. I also run an old
version of Graphic Converter because the newer version, though compatible, has
inexplicably removed some useful features which I regularly use. But then I
still pine for Cricket Graph and even the old MacDraw which could handle bitmap
and vector graphics together in a way that no current program seems to be able
to emulate.

I am obviously a lot of a luddite (we still have at least one machine running
7.something plus DOS on a 486).

Wow... So I would guess the upgrade to Photos.app from iPhoto.app is the cause.

I've updated my 17 MBP to OS X 10.10.3 with Photos.app but at the moment I'm
leaving my MBA at OS X 10.10.2 with iPhoto.app

So far there is not much I like about Photos.app.
I would have liked to see and hear Peter H's presentation and thoughts last
night at WAMUG meeting as Peter H mentioned he really liked the new Photos App
and I highly value Peter's observations and thoughts.

When I can find some time I'll give more thought to why PSE is not working in
10.10.3?

Cheers,

Hi Kevin,

What actually is happening in PSE 6?
Is PSE crashing when you try to launch it?
If you double click a file, or drag the file to the application icon - does it
open normally?
The problem seems to happen when you try to open an external file from within
elements using Elements File Open. Which could indicate it is crashing in
ColorSync.

Re: Not happy Jan!

2015-04-14 Thread Kevin Lock
Ronnie,

it’s not a biggy as I have PS Elements 6 on several other machines on my
network loaded with working Elements 6 and can use one of them and email myself.

I did notice that the Photos app took over from iPhoto, but after a short look
at I am reasonably happy with that.

My long-term project restoring Macs for needy people is stuck at the PPC G4/G5
level and Adobe’s Flash player is no longer supported (or rather it's that
older Macs are no longer supported).

Regards,

Kev

Re: Not happy Jan!

2015-04-14 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Kevin,

From what I can quickly find out as I mentioned previously.
The problem seems to happen when you try to open an external file from within
elements using elements File Open.

If you double click the file, or drag the file to the application icon - does
it open normally?
If you are able to open by double-click, or drag/drop on PSE Icon, the fault is
within the OS open dialog.
Isolated to the OS Open Dialog. You might encounter the same problem if you
attempt to open that same file from another application using the OS open
dialog.

Ok that's it I'm out of here.
Cheers,
Ronni
