We have a couple of Huawei USB modems that you can have if they are of any use.
Of course they will need SIM cards. One has a broken aerial connector, but in
the city an aerial is probably not required (unlike here). We have found these
connectors to be very flakey - it pays to take the modem to the shop when
buying an aerial to try it out.

Re: USB modems

2016-03-07 Thread Kevin Lock
Hi Ronni,

I have a few G5 towers. I also bought a couple of the Apple USB modems, but
they look as though they need a phone line to connect.
PPC machines are getting to be a bit like me….still work OK but can’t handle
the latest technology. I get very few donations of intel machines.

Cheers,

Kev

Re: USB modems

2016-03-07 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Kevin,

I don't know where you could pick up any locally. Daniel might know or have
some lying around in his 'surplus supplies' ;-)
I did have a couple but threw them out with some other old Tech stuff on verge
pickup awhile ago. :(

Are they Power PC G5?

eBay Au search for Apple "Apple MA034Z/A USB modem" (without the quotes) brings
up a few.

http://tinyurl.com/hawaaty

"Apple MA034Z/A modem. With a data transfer rate of up to 56 kpbs, this Apple
modem allows for speedier browsing, opening and surfing of online content.
This external USB modem, with a fax transmission rate of 14.4kpbs, ensures your
clients and customers get the faxes faster.
You can connect the versatile Apple MA034Z/A to your Power Mac G5, Mac mini or
iMac G5. This compact and light Apple modem is easy to install and use. Never
miss any important call when online with the modem-on-hold feature of this
external USB modem."

Cheers,
Ronni

USB modems

2016-03-07 Thread Kevin Lock
Hi,

does anyone on the list know where I can source such modems that will run on
PPC Macs.I still have a number of nice PPC macs to give to welfare clients
and most of them require a USB modem as the clients are usually unable to
afford other connection methods.

Hi Maureen

Thanks very much for the reminder, I appreciate it as I had over looked it.

Can you please let me know how much the subscription is so I can pay online?

Best regards

Chris
