 Thanks for the suggestion Pete.
I think what Ronni suggested was that I go to the iTunes folder / library,
locate the relevant folder and drop in directly ? I have numerous folders
in iTunes, each for the relevant subject or website podcast. It would
take me ages to do it that way I feel and is easier just to reformat them
 in my iskysoft software.

I have just played around with an offending file, being careful not to
touch any other folder on the way to iTunes, but still the same problem.
I have been loading up my iTunes since the early 2000’s and never had such
a problem. When iTunes will not quit, I have to do a restart, which
interrupts the other jobs I am doing at the time and have to restart them
again once the Mac has restarted.

On what I have gathered from the web, many people are experiencing
problems now with iTunes, I think I must be just one of them. I would
really like to go back to the older version of iTunes, when it was
operating perfectly, but not sure if that is really viable.

 Thanks

Re: ITUNES PROBLEM

2017-08-26 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Jewels,

I'm rushing out for the day so won't be able to help until later today.
But it sounds like you might have some old Library folders still in your
Home/Music/iTunes folder.

Temp Files from iTunes are created when the software cannot write to one or
more of the Library Files.
You may have some permissions issues, or another program is locking up the
ability to write to the .itl file
iTunes writes them to update the iTunes library file.
They should NOT stay after the file is updated.

You should be able to delete all of the .tmp files after you QUIT iTunes.

Gotta rush, if you need help earlier someone else might be able to help.
Otherwise I'll get back later today/tonight.

Cheers,
Ronni

Thanks Ronnie,
I guess I’ll give it a go when next adding files - I did this earlier today
unfortunately. I will let you know how I get on.

iTunes is still stopping and starting when playing something on the Mac - any
remedy you can think of ?

In the iTunes Library I see a vast number of temp files - I am unable to open
them - would it be safe to delete do you think ?

Thanks for both of your suggestions and help

I have iTunes 12.6.2 installed - but would mention it was the update
before this one when I started experiencing the problems. Never a problem
 previously.

I log on to a website and download their latest interviews (of which I am
a subscriber) - no problem there. I have always just dragged the mp3 file
from the Downloads folder and placed in the relevant folder on my iTunes.
I then later usually transfer these onto my classic ipod - no problems
with the ipod. Sometimes the mp3 I have dragged onto iTune freezes iTunes
and am unable often to do a Force Quit, so have to shutdown and restart
the Mac. I have recently noticed also that when playing from iTunes on
the Mac, it now stops and starts - perhaps a 10 second time of silence and
 then it returns playing.

I have my iTunes library etc on a dedicated 2GB hard drive, which I
installed into my Mac Pro - it is not an external hanging from a USB cord.

I tend to keep most of the mp3s in the iTunes library for future
reference. Of course, when the disc gets full, I will have to think about
backing some files up on another hard drive for safe keeping.

I have been having better luck when transferring the mp3 files onto
iSkysoft iMedia Converter Deluxe - for reformatting. Basically I’m just
reformatting an mp3 into an mp3, as I suspect maybe the original file has
something which iTunes does not like and the re-format eliminates it.
This process 98% of the time works.

I have searched the web for a solution without success, but have come
across numerous people who are having the same or similar problems.

 Cheers

 Hi Jewels,

 A) How are you trying to Add these MP3 files into iTunes?

You can add them to iTunes in many ways:

 * Drop them—either grouped or in a folder—on the iTunes icon.

 * Choose File > Add to Library (Command-O) and select files or folders.

*Drop them in the Automatically Add to iTunes folder. This is located in
the iTunes Media folder, which by default is in your Music folder. iTunes
adds any new content in this “watched” folder to your iTunes library and
then deletes it from the folder.

 B) What format were the original downloaded files, and what ‘program’ have
you used to convert the files to MP3?
You can convert audio files in iTunes to other formats.
"I have run the problematic mp3s
through a program which reformats to an mp3, which usually works, but not
 always.”

 C) Are you using iTunes 12.6.2?

Jewels, this is a long shot. During the drag/drop process into iTunes, is it
possible your mouse is passing over a potential drop point (some other folder
on the way to the intended folder) that is making OSX jam up. If you do the
menu driven import method (Ronni suggested this below) that would at least
eliminate that as a possible reason for the hang ups. I have this problem with
Windows Explorer at my work and use other methods as a result (Import process
or Copy/Paste).

Re: ITUNES PROBLEM

2017-08-26 Thread Julie Bedford
Many thanks for your email Ronni.

I have iTunes 12.6.2 installed - but would mention it was the update before
this one when I started experiencing the problems. Never a problem previously.

I log on to a website and download their latest interviews (of which I am a
subscriber) - no problem there. I have always just dragged the mp3 file from
the Downloads folder and placed in the relevant folder on my iTunes. I then
later usually transfer these onto my classic ipod - no problems with the ipod.
Sometimes the mp3 I have dragged onto iTune freezes iTunes and am unable often
to do a Force Quit, so have to shutdown and restart the Mac. I have recently
noticed also that when playing from iTunes on the Mac, it now stops and starts
- perhaps a 10 second time of silence and then it returns playing.

I have my iTunes library etc on a dedicated 2GB hard drive, which I installed
into my Mac Pro - it is not an external hanging from a USB cord.

I tend to keep most of the mp3s in the iTunes library for future reference. Of
course, when the disc gets full, I will have to think about backing some files
up on another hard drive for safe keeping.

I have been having better luck when transferring the mp3 files onto iSkysoft
iMedia Converter Deluxe - for reformatting. Basically I’m just reformatting an
mp3 into an mp3, as I suspect maybe the original file has something which
iTunes does not like and the re-format eliminates it. This process 98% of the
time works.

I have searched the web for a solution without success, but have come across
numerous people who are having the same or similar problems.

Cheers
Jewels

Re: ITUNES PROBLEM

2017-08-26 Thread Ronni Brown

This is located in the
iTunes Media folder, which by default is in your Music folder. iTunes adds any
new content in this “watched” folder to your iTunes library and then deletes it
from the folder.

B) What format were the original downloaded files, and what ‘program’ have you
used to convert the files to MP3?
You can convert audio files in iTunes to other formats.
"I have run the problematic mp3s
through a program which reformats to an mp3, which usually works, but not
always.”

C) Are you using iTunes 12.6.2?

Cheers,
Ronni
