My "newer" computer is ....stuffed. it's so full it won't delete
things, so I can't run anything from the external drive. I do have
backups.
Fortunately I managed to Repair the libraries and they now
open....but
if/when I get a new computer they'll be incompatible again...oh
well.
Anybody got any ideas for photo management software that doesn't
take 4
years to open?

I don’t know anything else with the same power or options as Photos for
the same price (ie free), but there is the relatively inexpensive “Lyn”
([3]https://www.lynapp.com) or the (slightly more expensive)
GraphicConverter
([4]https://www.lemkesoft.de/en/products/graphicconverter/). There are
probably others but these are the ones which spring to mind quickly.
Both of these programs will let you expolre and modify your Photos
libraries.
