Re: Local spammers...

2003-04-13 Thread Peter McGrath
I recently received a spam in which they had forgotten to hide the
addresses. It was obvious that they had sent the e-mail to all
addressees that began mcgrath@ and then just added the names of as many
ISPs as they could find. Therefore an address such as [EMAIL PROTECTED]
would be very easy for them to add to their list.

I am constantly reminded of the experience I had setting up a new iMac
for a client a little over a year ago. Although her ISP is iinet, she
had never actually used her iinet POP account, preferring instead to
use her Yahoo account via IE (yeah, well...). The point is, not knowing
this at the time of setting up her computer, I blithely went along and
set up her email account details in Mail and downloaded what was there.
There were 48 messages waiting for her, in an account SHE HAD NEVER
 USED!

Printing problems

2002-06-28 Thread Peter McGrath
I have a Canon BJC 3000 connected to my iMac (500Mhz, OS9.2.1) and every
time I try to print something the application I'm trying to print from
unexpectedly quits. This happens no matter what the application. I can print
to file (using print to PDF). I've tried reinstalling the printer driver and
I've connected the printer to another iMac to check it (it worked) but I
still can't get it to print from my machine. Has anyone got any ideas?

TIA

OS X universal drivers

2002-02-02 Thread Peter McGrath
Someone told me the other day that OS X includes a universal driver for many
printers and other devices. Would this work with my Canon BJC 3000 printer?
I'd be quite interested in the answer as the lack of a OS X driver for my
printer is the only thing stopping me from upgrading to OS X.

Re: Modems for sale

2001-11-05 Thread Peter McGrath
Hi,

I have a modem for sale if anyone is interested. It's a US Robotics 56K.
It's missing the power adapter so I'll sell it for $50.

I also have a Mac Classic, a Mac Classic II and a Stylewriter 1200. The
Sylewriter doesn't work but might be fixable. $20 the lot or free to a
school.

Please e-mail or call me.
