Can't get default application to change
Hi, I've just been trying to sort out problems for a friend with a new Intel iMac (OS10.4.10), where the trial version of MSoft Office 2004 was put onto the system by the sales team. I've installed MSoft Office X, but all files created by applications default to opening in the trial version. If I reset .doc files to open with the licensed version of Word they immediately reset to the trial version. I've tried renaming the trial version, then uninstalling it. No difference - all .doc files now open with a non-existent, trashed application. I've trashed MSoft Office and Word Settings in the preferences and tried to reset the default application again - same problem. It appears to reset, but when I go on to tell it to reset all .doc files it reverts to the now-deleted trial version. Any ideas? Cheers, K Hi Kaye This has something to do with an invisible file left somewhere from the trail version. I remember playing around with it for a while when I had the same problem on a client's machine. Inside the Trial folder was a Remove Trial version of Microsoft Office. This needed to be run to remove all the files, including the invisible ones as well, which are now causing your problem. There was another work around for it, but as I'm not at home, I don't have it handy I'm afraid. Will see if I can turn it up and let you know. I do have a Remove Office Application on this machine, which I'll send direct to you, to see how you go. Try that and let us know. Thanks. Also make sure you delete the com.microsoft.plist files which will be in the HardDrive/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences. These will also have to be removed as well. Hope some of that helps.
