So very true Peter, I would not use the Internet if I had to use IE6.
Only last week I had quite a somewhat heated discussion with a High School 
Principal re just this issue.

If only this problem was confined to this particular issue, but we see it all 
too frequently in what are generally government-base sites or those of large, 
seemingly inflexible organisations such as standards authorities. Such 
organisations, which by their nature should be accessible to as many users as 
possible, tend to be precisely the opposite, causing those of us who support 
users to go through numerous hoops just to make these horrible web pages work. 
And it's not just their web sites...

As just one alarming example, I regularly receive, on behalf of a client, a 
spreadsheet file containing report data from one of the largest health 
insurance companies in the country (and yes, it's government-based - is that 
enough clues?   : ) ). This file, which always comes from the same contact, is 
created in MS Excel 95! Perhaps we can look forward to the day when they 
upgrade to Windows 98...

Ah Peter,

If it wasn’t so serious … it would be funny!  Government Departments are the 
worst, they refuse to advance with technology and unfortunately they brain wash 
everyone involved. The Education Department is a classic example of brain 
washed IT Departments.

Please don’t get me started ;-)

Have any of you expressed your concerns by ringing the ICT Customer 
Service Centre? Or written to the Department to say, the Deputy Director 
General David Axworthy?
Safari and Firefox are recognised by most corporate bodies so I find it 
amazing that the Department of Education and Training is not at the 
forefront of communications and using these browsers.

I don't have logins so I didn't proceed, but both come up fine on an iPad. As 
Roger pointed out the second site redirects one by way of a link to the new 
portal.
