Definitely, try another mouse. I had exactly the same problem with the 
puck mouse which came with my G4. I've had no problems since moving to 
a Macally iSweetnet. You also get you use the built-in MacOS X support 
for the righthand button and the scroll wheel as well.

Me too!

I have a TiPB 550, OS X.2.6 with 512MB RAM and a Logitech optical mouse.

This has been happening since I installed 10.2.4.

As a postscript;
seems my mouse can be unfrozen by lifting it from the pad momentarily 
but this only allieviates the problem momentarily.

The mouse i have has the infra red light not a roller

Problem getting worse!
