Re: IE 5.2 For Mac OS X

2002-06-19 Thread John Bussell
I have to agree with those who have posted favourable comments on IE
5.2. Substituting homepages was a bit of a dirty trick, but I guess
there's likely to be a price to pay for free software!

On thing I would love to see, and something that surely can't be too
difficult to program, is a way to immediately add favourites into a
particular favourites folder rather than having to subsequently (and
manually) go through and sort collected favourites into the
appropriate folders. My memory may be playing tricks, but I'm sure I
was able to do this years ago in (IE or netscape?) on another
platform...

One can drag the URL to the folder of choice in the favourites tab,
but that doesn't preserve page title.

I want to know when Microsoft are going to put tabs into IE. If you have
used Mozilla or Chimera, you will know what I mean! Instead of having 5
different web pages open, there is just one page with tabs at the top. Much
neater!

Dragging the little target symbol to the left of the url in the
address field into the Favourites side-bar tab preserves the page
title.

I've also found IE 5.2 to be significantly improved - The
anti-aliasing looks great to me on most pages I visit and the speed
is definitely improved. Particularly apparent is the speed of
command-clicking on links to open links in new windows. I do this
every day from the http://www.macsurfer.com/ website opening up a
dozen or more news articles in separate windows all loading
simultaneously. IE used to slow down hugely while doing this - it
now works far faster.

Yes, because they've done such a good job of using tabs in all their
other products...

Admittedly that's not MS's Mac Business Unit though :)

Have fun,

Well maybe it's just me, but it seems a lot faster all of a sudden.
Pages are rendering incredibly quickly at the moment. Or maybe my cable
connection is just in a good mood right now...

Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to.

I have downloaded and installed it - speed seems to have increased and
launch time is significantly improved on my TiBook 550. The text smoothing
is very easy on the eye.

All in all a nice little update.

Cheers
