Re: G5 problems (Rename JPEGs)
G'day Mark. I don't know if this would help. I have Name-Mangler which is a free software download. You can rename multiple files, add prefixes or suffixes, insert stuff, remove characters, etc. I just renamed 1,072 photos by replacing the IMG_ with Melbourne March 2010 . (space included for gap between name and photo number currently in existence.) It took less than a couple of minutes. I miss my Bulk Rename from my PC as that is brilliant but it doesn't work on Macs. You can download and read about Name-Mangler at http://download.cnet.com/Name-Mangler/3000-2094_4-71684.html I used version 2.0, I see they have 2.2 now. Must download that. Anyway, it might help. Unfortunately the problem still exists, so I will put that on the back burner for a while. A new query though. Can I use Apple Script to re label loads of JPEG images? We are setting up our new on-line stock library and I need to be able to use alpha-numeric codes on thousands of pix, such as SUB0001.jpg to SUB0066.jpg, or PEOP0001.jpg to PEOP0200.jpg for example. Beta site: www.eyeinthesky.com.au/website So if anyone has experience with Apple Scripting I would love to hear from you, as I have never used it before. Thanks Jon You might also want to consider using Automator to create a new workflow. Automator has a specific Rename Finder Items action which has the power to do what you want. You'll need the Make Sequential option, and start the workflow with the Ask for Finder items action. Automator is the bomb for this sort of thing. Open automator (if in a later version choose to create an application now) select files finder Select rename Finder Items (usually you will get prompted to add a backup file option here.. It would be wise not to be working on the original but as I have backups before I start this sort of thing I don't put this action in) Select the type of action you want done (in this case Make Sequential) Use the Options show this action when the workflow runs so that you can customise the rename process for each time you run it. Save as an application (older versions of automator will now do the workflow or application thing) Drag and drop batches of files on to the applications (you can add it to your right mouse click menu... But I've forgotten how to do this...anyone else know?) mark.sec...@uwa.edu.au Mark Secker (Ba. Bus. Re: Turning multiple jpegs into a single multipage pdf document?
Thanks Shay, Alastair, and Bob for suggestions. I haven't yet upgraded to Leopard, so I couldn't take Shay's suggestion up. I did try the suggested process under Tiger, but the ability to print multiple image files as a single pdf must be a Leopard enhancement - doesn't want to work in Tiger, but you probably all know that. I couldn't take Alastair's suggestion up because I don't have Photoshop. I was about to try Bob's suggestion which as you said Bob required a bit of work, but in the interests of evading work I thought I'd have a quick look at GraphicConverter, tried a couple of things without success, then stumbled across the surprisingly simple process of Print Folder Worked a treat! Thanks anyway all. Another reason to upgrade to Leopard I guess. Many thanks, Steven I cannot vouch for quality , but If you convert them to PDF by using Preview , then use Combine PDF or perhaps PDF Pen to create one multipage PDF document you can print that document from Adobe Reader multiple PDF pages to one A4 sheet by selecting in Page Scaling ... Multiple pages per sheet then at Pages per Sheetselect Custom and enter your choice. default shows 1 by 1 so change that to fit your needs bit of work for the conversion but it will work Bob -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
JPEGS
What I always do now, at home using Photoshop and OS9.2, is alter my image in Photoshop, colour corrections and sharpness, anything else you need to change, then resize it roughly. Then I open the image in Graphic Convertor and save it as a JPG there. It has an option to save it web ready with no resource fork. This reduces the file size hugely without reducing the quality for low resolution, email and web suited, images. This isn't going to tell you why the problem happens but it does offer a way around it. Graphic Convertor can be found on Version Tracker and has a free trial period with an option to purchase later. While I recommend paying for it, just because its good to do, you don't need to pay to continue it after the trial period is up. It seriously reduced my file sizes by about three quarters, sometimes more. Its worth a look, but obviously not for anything you will wantto edit or play with down the track. Only for web ready and finished images. Kind regards, Kelly Agree with Kelly as far as Photoshop. What happens next depends whether the pics are for publication. I work with a graphic designer on a couple of regular jobs and I am always getting the outputs of lo res digi cameras. We often do a preview with Graphic Convertor. Always, when going to Photoshop to manipulate the images the colour balance is different and not as good as Photoshop. So I'd recommend saving IN Photoshop - but whether as JPEG or other depends on what you want to do with the images. More on jpegs
I have a different prob. regarding Jpegs. In an email message, a PC friend sent some .Jpgs as attachments. They came down in code and I have forgotten how to convert them to images. I remember way back in the early '90s almost every pic was encoded. JPEGS and how to cook them
Can someone please clarify the difference-if any-between 'Baseline Standard', 'Baseline Optimised' and 'Progressive' JPEGs, in terms of their relative use, quality, size and suitability for various purposes ... not least, whether any of them would make them unviewable when sent to a PC; or easier to view?
