i'm wondering if you have a broken power cord for the screen light..
the screen should go dark only when you turn down the brightness or
just before the lid is completely closed
your crc idea..well you may do that just before you bin the
macbook, crc is a very good way to kill electronics

isopropyl alcohol may do a better cleaning w/o damage

Everything is fine, the screen comes to life, until a certain angle

stay black permanently so I want to fix it.

It is probably a sensor problem in the hinge. Can I fix it by dis
assembling and spraying with CRC contact cleaner?

Does anyone have a dead MacBook with spare hinge? Not sure if it
the right or left hinge until I pull it apart?

Any suggestions welcome.

Re: MacBook Screen Powers On then Off

2009-09-10 Thread John Charlick

Thanks James

I have located an invertor which is the official name for the bit that
controls the on/ off when the screen is opened and will pull the
computer apart and check for wires and the like and install the
invertor. Found a good manual off the web so should be no problem
doing this.

Invertor cost me $49 so am very happy with that.

Thanks for tip re isopropyl alcohol.

MacBook Screen Powers On then Off

2009-09-09 Thread John Charlick

I have a 15 inch MacBook with a hardware problem. If the computer is
asleep and the screen closed, I raise the screen on its hinge to wake
the computer up.

Everything is fine, the screen comes to life, until a certain angle
