Do you have more than one itunes account. I see a similar issue when my boys who have their own accounts sync their devices with my imac. Hi Alan, Adding to Hugh's comments. Do you have an old copy of the application either in another directory or on an external drive? If so delete the old copy. Re: App Store Update Badge Counter Won't Reset
Hi Hugh and Ronni Strange events - - - More (possible relevant) info: Yesterday I spent some time trying to understand the badge counter issue. I re-downloaded the app which I had updated and installed a few weeks ago. I then got a message to effect that the update was already installed. I then Restarted the iMac to clear any memory links. But the dock icon and App store itself still showed one update available. Hugh: I do have a second Apple ID. This has not been used to purchase anything on iTunes or the App Store. Ronni: There does not seem to be an old copy of the app (The Unarchiver ver 3.2). I assume the original was properly deleted or overwritten with an earlier update. BUT I do have a duplicate copy of the app on my weekly backup external hard drive which is mounted and active. The duplicate app is dated 30 April 2012 which is when I first downloaded the current update. My (re-downloaded) Mac HD version is dated 16 May 2012.As a first test I did another standard weekly SuperDuper backup so that both internal Mac HD and external copies were identical.I then restarted the iMac. The App Store dock icon still showed the red counter badge. I then opened the App Store - bingo! Dock counter badge disappeared and the App Store update available menu icon also dropped its badge alert. Conclusion: Problem gone. An unsatisfactory explanation as between 30 April and 15 May the Mac HD and external backup copy had identical dates. At least if the problem arises again I now have a starting point for analysis. Thanks for your help. Cheers Alan On 17/05/2012, at 12:05 PM, Ronda Brown wrote: Hi Alan, Adding to Hugh's comments. Hi Alan, I then opened the App Store - bingo! Dock counter badge disappeared and the App Store update available menu icon also dropped its badge alert. Yes, that is correct. The dock counter was Holding the 'link' that an update was available to the old version of the App. Once you opened the App Store after restarting iMac, it updated the 'link' (that's not the word I'm looking for, but it explains what I'm trying to say... I hope ;-) Cheers, Ronni Sent from Ronni's iPad On 17/05/2012, at 1:29 PM, Alan Smith sma...@iinet.net.au wrote: Hi Hugh and Ronni Strange events - - - More (possible relevant) info: Yesterday I spent some time trying to understand the badge counter issue.
