Re: FileMaker Question

2009-02-04 Thread Norman Leslie

Hi Peter,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

One particular layout I was trying to achieve had more fields than
records!

Your response forced me to go back and have another look at how I
could achieve what I needed. The little grey cells, to quote Hercule
Poirot eventually kicked in. I have increased the depth of the body
and stacked the fields for a record. The end result will do the trick.

Thanks to others for their input.

I would like to create a Report Layout with the records in
columns and fields in rows - this is not an option in any of the
Layout Templates, where the fields are in columns and the records
in rows.

Can someone put me out of my misery?

Filemaker's Layout Mode does not support this in any way. In fact
I'm struggling to think of any database tool that does. By their
very nature, you are always going to have many more records than
fields, so a vertical arrangement of records displaying a set number
of fields (allowing endless scrolling) is the natural and obvious
approach. It's also much easier to make sense of.

Do you have any examples of the model you are trying to reproduce?

Hehe...

Just a very silly idea call it Irish lateral thinking...

Can you rotate the text 90 degrees in all the fields/boxes...

Then print in landscape layout...

Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself ;)

Yes, you can do that, but it won't really solve the problem. The
records will still be listed vertically.

I still use FoxPro in Classic and can print just the records that
meet a certain condition. I can't see a way to do this in FileMaker.

What version of Filemaker are you using? Things are very different
between version 6 or earlier, and version 7 or later.
