Re: Mail text size

2012-04-11 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi People who have been following this subject,

We have exhausted every way of making Mail Text larger, but please bear with me
just for one last response.

I have been annoyed for years with incoming mail from Windows Users showing
much smaller than other incoming mail.
I actually get annoyed that Windows Users even email me… (only kidding Wendy at
work, who uses a Mac in her ‘Real Life' ;-))

Well, today I was determined to solve this annoying problem, and I have
achieved what I set out to achieve.
My eyes are not as good as they used to be, (it’s not anything to do with ‘Age’
Daniel)… it’s spending anything up to 20 hours a day working on computer
screens. So I like my email font at size16…

The Solution:

The tiny font problem usually involves HTML mail coming from Windows users (why
don’t they get a Mac to email me)!
Fortunately, you can set Mail to have a minimum that it will use for HTML
messages... but you have to go to the Terminal for it.

1. Quit Mail
2. Open Terminal.app
3. Copy Paste in the following command:

defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 16

Note that you can use any size you like, it does not have to be 16. For eyes
that can see well, probably 12.
If you don't like it, run the command again with a different number.

Cheers,
Ronni

Well Ronni, Alan and everyone else who wrote about Mail Text Size - this is
the second giggle I have had today. Thank you.

Ronni I also confuse myself just reading questions, never minding trying to
answer questions!

It is now 5;15 in my house. Surely we can now have our glass of red?

Re: Mail text size

2012-04-10 Thread Daniel Kerr
Or, in Mail (and Safari). Go to View menu, Choose Customise Toolbar...
Drag in the little A big A to the menu bar. Repeat for Main Window, New
Message menu and when reading an email Window. Then you will have it there all
the time. If you then forget the keys for it, you can just click the Big A to
make ti larger and the small A to make it smaller.
Works the same in Safari too. (Though you only need do it once for the Main
window). Mail lets you customise it three times, as each window is different.

Just another way to have it there.

Kind regards
Daniel

Drag in the little A big A to the menu bar. Repeat for Main Window, New

A to make ti larger and the small A to make it smaller.
Works the same in Safari too. (Though you only need do it once for the Main

 different.

Just another way to have it there.

Re: Mail text size

2012-04-10 Thread Winters John
I've been following this thread and was a little puzzled, because the command
+ (or command = for the pedant) worked just fine in Mail.

Then I tried it again as I read through the thread (there's a case study for
NLP) and it didn't work.

It seems that if there is only one email in the thread, the command +/- keys
work every time, making the text larger or smaller, but if reading a
multi-message thread, it seems to stop working. In actual fact, in a thread of
emails, there is one selected email outlined in blue to which the keystrokes
are directed, regardless of which message in the thread you are currently
reading. Try clicking on one message in this thread and use the keys to make
the test bigger, then scroll so it is no longer visible and use the keys to
make the text smaller. Nothing will happen in the visible but unselected
message, however the selected message will change even though off screen.
Scroll back to check. Weird, but makes sense when you think about it!

Regards,
John

Just to add a slightly different slant to all the replies, it is pertinent to
point out that our WAMUG list may one of the safer places to admit that you use
Comic Sans in such a way. There are parts of the internet where the use of
Comic Sans is considered to be almost a hanging offence.

Here's just one example...and there are plenty of others:

Peter,

I am well aware of the story! However, there is research of sorts into serif
vs sanserif. Not sure I go along with the weird attacks on CS though.

I use Caecilia LT for most stuff I write. Anyway Daniels' simple iconic
