Hello Stephen,

NO, I haven’t tried or tested MS Edge.
We get a Mac version of MS Edge only because there’s a Mac version of Google’s
Chromium system.

My previous reply to Peter Curtis explains why I prefer Safari.

Re: Safari will not open specific webpage

2020-02-11 Thread Alan Smith
Hi Stephen,

As someone from wamug (Neil?) said a few years ago: it’s too late - Google
already knows everything about you. I think I was trying to uninstall Google
Chrome after using it for a few days.

Google is efficient for my web searches. I used DuckDuckGo for some time but
became irritated by it. Ditto for Bing.

In general I use standard Apple apps, including Safari. I have Firefox
installed on some devices as a backup browser. Waiting for the new Microsoft
Edge to be released by the Australian Mac App Store for possible use on the
2019 iMac.

Cheers
Alan

Re: Safari will not open specific webpage

2020-02-11 Thread Stephen Chape
Sounds to me like Woolies have not tested their latest web catalogue.
Web writers should always make sure their work is compatible with all common
browsers before releasing.
I learnt this when I did my IT course at TAFE some years ago.

Safari will not open specific webpage

2020-02-10 Thread Alan Smith
A problem. I look at the Coles and Woolworths grocery catalogues most weeks. I
usually use a 2012 iMac for this. This week I cannot open the Woolies
catalogue page using the default Safari browser. I get a spinning "wait” icon
with message “Loading Page”. OS is High Sierra 10.13.6 with Google search
engine. However it does work using Firefox.

Same thing happens using a 2019 iMac using Safari and Google. OS is Mojave
10.14.6, Safari is version 13.0.5. I do not have any other browser installed
on this device. If I use Safari > Develop > User Agent to emulate another
browser (Firefox or Microsoft Edge) then the Woolies catalogue page opens.
There is no change when the iMac is booted in Safe Mode. No problems detected
with Malwarebytes or EtreCheck.

Experiments with other devices just muddy the waters. iPad 5 with iOS 13.3 and
Google will not open the Woolies page either. iPad 2 with iOS 9.3.5 and Bing
works ok!

Superficially it seems that Google is a common factor. Any suggestions for a
fix?

Perplexed
