Actually, Verizon's network is CDMA so you can't use an iPhone (which is GSM) on that network (apart from being a totally incompatible standard, CDMA does not use SIM cards). The only other GSM network in the USA besides ATT is T-Mobile though I believe they have poorer coverage on average than ATT. As Peter said, the iPhone 2G is not available anymore, but the 3G and 3GS are and unlocked ones should work anywhere around the world that has a GSM network by using local SIM cards. That's the nice thing about GSM (Global System for Mobile communications). Re: iPhone 2 Qs
Assuming you mean an iPhone 2G, I don't think you can buy them anymore. They are not listed on the USA Apple Store. Perhaps your friend is looking perchance to purchase one secondhand? Re: iPhone 2 Qs
Hi Nathalie, Theoretically the iPhone will work in both US and Australia. He'll be best getting an iPhone 3Gs. As long as he gets an unlocked phone then he can get a SIM from any telecommunications company. He will have to work out the choices in the US based on the locations he visits. Of course in Oz it comes down to the best package (Virgin or Vodafone imho) or best coverage but more costly (those other guys). Re: iPhone 2 Qs
Greetings! ATT sells an unlocked i Phone BUT you have to subscribe to an ATT phone plan. Best deal is to buy an unlocked one from Graig at Max Style and take it with him to the states. Then buy a prepaid sim from Verizon and use it in the states.
