2012-01-03 Thread James / Hans Kunz
happy new year to all

my query is after an accident the macbook pro 17 osx.6.8 shows the log in
window and shows in red safe boot
which password is needed to log in
a) the admin password as established during install
b) a special password given by apple

what happens if the original system install disk is inserted the password
gets erased a new one created

Re: safe boot password

2012-01-03 Thread cm
Hi James,

I just curious as to the type of accident that you MacBook Pro experienced?
Also does the computer boot in safe boot mode every time or do you initiate the
safe boot by holding down the shift key?

As to your secondary question, if you use the install disk to change the admin
password using the Reset Password facility, there will be no grave consequences
other than having to provide this new password for admin tasks instead of the
old one.

Cheers,
Carlo

Re: safe boot password

2012-01-03 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Carlo James,

I had come back online and re-read James email and thought like you Carlo...
Did James try to startup in Safe Mode or did the MBP just automatically do this?

I had this happen on a client's computer a long time ago, where it would
startup displaying the Safe Boot login screen and then not accept the 'correct'
AdminPassword.
I eventually found it was a sticky Shift Key and it was therefore not able to
handle the lower case password, therefore the password was not accepted.
We had to replace the keyboard.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: safe boot password

2012-01-03 Thread James / Hans Kunz
thanks for all the replies,
to complete the story..
Re: MacBook Pro water damage!!!
that was originally the subject..i was able to get the macbook going with
an external display, yep the 'safe mode' appears by it self so i have to follow
up the sticky key problem
the water came in from the back through the fan slots affected the screen
power connections (corrosion), the screen remains dark
